Full-Time Senior Scientist – Cheminformatician

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced scientist and chemo-informatician to join our global Computer-Aided Drug Discovery (CADD) team and broader research group in UCB’s growing US-based research hub in Bedford, MA. The Bedford site is home to a diverse group of research functions and teams such as Targeted-Protein Degradation, a growing scientific computing group, Gene Therapy, Protein production & purification, Biophysics and X-ray Crystallography.

To be successful in this role you the Senior/Principal Scientist – DEL Informatics demonstrate excellent scientific judgement and leadership and be highly skilled in cheminformatics or data analysis.  You will have demonstrable experience and a proven track record of developing custom tools and informatics infra structure is critical, as is their application in data analysis.  You will either already have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of all computational/informatics aspects of the DNA-encoded library (DEL) platform or have the potential to acquire them in a short time. Together with other experienced DEL scientists, you will be instrumental in advancing/completing an internal UCB DNA-encoded library platform build. The clear purpose of this role includes the design of high-quality libraries, establishing the data analysis platform, and performing hands-on analysis of screening data and hit triage. The role will require extensive collaboration with scientists across our research sites and with external collaborators and CROs.

 

You will contribute by:
•    Acting as key contributor to UCB’s DNA-encoded library platform strategy and its implementation.
•    Providing leadership on the computational and data analysis efforts to design DNA-encoded libraries by working with internal and external collaborators.
•    Acquiring, developing and/or implementing computational tools and workflows, through independent research and internal/external collaborations, for data analysis and hit triage.
•    Leading the screening data analysis and hit triage in close collaboration with other UCB colleagues.
•    Contributing to hit validation and hit to lead activities.
•    Collaborating with external groups for the development of novel algorithms to enhance our computational capabilities for DNA-encoded libraries.
•    Providing scientific leadership and cheminformatics expertise in DNA-encoded libraries and provide recommendations regarding emerging external capabilities.
•    Ensuring optimal interaction/communication and provide updates on project status to our Chemistry leadership.
•    Creating effective working relationships in a matrix environment.
•    Demonstrating a high level of entrepreneurship and foster can-do and can-win attitude.

 

Interested? For this position, you’ll need the following educationexperience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:
•    PhD with 4+ years OR Master’s degree with 8+ years industry experience in cheminformatics, computational chemistry, computer/data science
•    5+ years hands-on programming and scripting skills in Python, RD Kit, C++, R and similar
•    Authored in scientific publications and patent applications

 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    5+ years of experience in all computational aspects of the DNA-Encoded Library platform (i.e. library design, data analysis ,etc)
•    Talented candidates with a documented ability to self-start and quickly acquire new skill sets but still need to develop deep DEL experience will also be considered
•    Technical expertise in developing cheminformatics protocols using workflow tools (e.g., PipelinePilot) and coding toolkits (e.g., RDkit, CDK and OpenEye)
•    Track record of successful delivery of compound library design and chemistry technology platforms, utilizing internal and external resources
•    Experience of synthetic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry
•    Ability to effectively communicate and interpret experimental results using advanced data visualization
