Job Description

Arcadia is the technology company empowering energy innovators and consumers to fight the climate crisis. Our software and APIs are revolutionizing an industry held back by outdated systems and institutions by creating unprecedented access to the data and clean energy needed to make a decarbonized energy grid possible.

In 2014, Arcadia set out on its mission to break the fossil fuel monopoly and since then we have been knocking down the institutional barriers to unlock decarbonization. To date, we have connected hundreds of thousands of consumers and small businesses with high-quality clean energy options. Fast forward to today, and now, we’re thinking even bigger. We have launched Arc, an industry-defining SaaS platform that empowers developers and energy innovators to deliver their own custom, personalized energy experiences, accelerating the transformation of the industry from an analog energy system into a digitized information network.

Tackling one of the world’s biggest challenges requires out-of-the-box thinking & diverse perspectives. We’re building a team of individuals from different backgrounds, industries, & educational experiences. If you share our passion for ushering in the era of the clean electron, we look forward to learning what you would uniquely bring to Arcadia!

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a Product Designer for the Arc Platform, which brings Arcadia’s technological capabilities to enterprises and software developers of all sizes. This individual will partner closely with the product, engineering, and business development teams to define our SaaS offerings, design user-friendly dashboard experiences for developers/admins, and implement features that show customers the possibilities of the platform.

We have built an innovative and powerful platform that integrates with 125+ utilities across all 50 states. These innovative capabilities will allow for a whole new category of energy products to enter the market and move the world towards a smarter and more efficient grid.

This role will initially report to the Director of Product Design. Additionally, this candidate will collaborate frequently with other designers and/or a Design Lead — as well as Product Managers, Engineers, Analysts/Data Scientists, Business Development Teams, Researchers, Marketers, Policymakers, and Energy SMEs.

Arcadia is headquartered in Washington, DC, and open to fully remote candidates.

What you’ll do:

  • Navigate technical challenges of creating sophisticated tools for a multitude of audiences, including residential customers, businesses, and software developers / their enterprise end-users
  • Work with your team to problem solve and explore divergent concepts, while understanding how to converge and build iteratively towards a product vision
  • Use customer research, qual/quant data, strategic guidance, and Arcadia’s platform capabilities/constraints to narrow design directions and come up with the best possible solution to a given initiative
  • Design in both low fidelity sketches and fully functioning prototypes, to clearly communicate your ideas to your direct team, customers, and execs
  • Contribute to a growing design system and component library
  • Inspire new insights through expert knowledge of other enterprise- and developer-focused products
  • Mentor and coach other members of the design team through building a professional rapport, contributing to design critiques, and participating in design pairing/working sessions

What will help you succeed:

  • 3–5 years of experience as a product designer, interaction designer, or ui/ux designer
  • A portfolio that demonstrates ground breaking digital work, a deep understanding of customer needs, and unique approaches to problem solving
  • Expertise in developing information architecture, interaction models, flows, schematics and visual designs across a range of platforms and devices, including web, iOS and Android.
  • An excellent eye for visual design including color, layout, and typography
  • Committed attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Figma and/or Sketch required
  • Knowledge of prototyping tools (Principle, Framer, etc.)
  • Ability to successfully prioritize projects and focus on the things that matter most
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-productivity environment that includes addressing and acting on feedback
  • Degree in Human Factors, HCI, Design, Cognitive Science, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, similar field of study, or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience in B2B enterprise SaaS
  • Front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience running customer research studies and usability testing sessions

  • “Remote first” culture – work anywhere in the US as long as you have a reliable internet connection
  • Flexible PTO – no accrued hours and no limit on the number of vacation days employees can take each year
  • 15 annual company-wide holidays including a week long “summer break”
  • 10 days sick leave
  • Up to 4 weeks bereavement leave
  • 2 volunteer days off
  • 2 professional development days off
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for all parents
  • Weekly “flex time” – no internal meetings on Tuesdays and Friday afternoons
  • 80-95% employer cost coverage for medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees and dependents
  • Annual budget to use on conferences, books, classes, workshops or anything that contributes to professional development
