Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition (TA) provides strategic direction and oversight to the Academy’s recruiting function in order to deliver on the Academy’s business priorities, mission, and commitment to diversity. The SR Manager, TA is a thought leader around recruiting best practices and will bring ideas to build a team environment of inclusivity and diversity that’s reflective of our company values.

The position is a hybrid on-site/remote (within CA) with a minimum of two days on-site and can change as business needs warrant. The candidate must easily be able to work onsite in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco when needed. Candidates are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination, including receiving a booster shot, as a condition of employment, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. Strategic Areas:

  • Design and implement the talent acquisition vision, strategy, and roadmap in order to deliver on the Academy’s business priorities, mission, and commitment to diversity
  • Drive the Academy’s Diversifying Recruitment Process efforts that focuses on creating an inclusive recruitment process and attracting more diverse applicants, particularly from historically underrepresented groups
  • Lead collaboration and innovative problem solving with cross-functional partners to develop and execute recruiting strategies that help develop diverse candidate pipelines
  • Cultivate a data-driven recruiting function to make informed and measurable recruiting decisions and to continue improving the overall effectiveness of our recruiting efforts.
  • Advise business leaders on innovative sourcing strategies utilizing external market best practices and intelligence to influence direction

Talent Acquisition:

  • Personally lead the full cycle recruiting for key senior-level searches and other critical roles
  • Evaluate and enhance the recruitment process while continually making improvements for efficiency and improved productivity
  • Partner with HR Analyst to produce, analyze, and report out recruiting metrics, such as, time and cost to fill, quality of hire, offer acceptance rate, and other relevant metrics
  • Lead the DEIA subcommittee on recruitment and hiring to update and revise processes and programs to attract a more diverse workforce
  • Lead the effort to build and maintain relationships with key educational institutions, professional associations, diversity organizations, individuals, and community organizations to use as recruiting sources
  • Develop a strategy to maximize the ATS system to deliver on recruiting plans and areas for automation and workflow optimization in order to streamline the hiring process
  • Deliver DEIA recruitment training for all hiring managers and teams that addresses eliminating bias in the recruiting process


  • Develop and inspire recruiting team to achieve hiring goals
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Demonstrated success building and leading a recruiting function in a mid-sized company
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing, developing, and leading a team
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in full-cycle recruiting
  • Experience recruiting for executive-level positions
  • Experience recruiting in a non-profit environment is desirable


  • An interest in the Academy’s mission and ability to integrate it into the recruiting process: To regenerate the natural world through science, learning, and collaboration  
  • A demonstrated commitment/professional experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong collaborator as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals
  • Communicates effectively with staff, cross-functional teams, applicants, and external clients from different identities and experiences
  • Ability to bring new ideas, create innovative solutions, and find efficiencies to improve processes
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and adapt with a sense of urgency to organizational changes
