Det-Tronics is searching for a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our Engineering team!

This firmware engineer will play a key role in architecting and developing firmware for existing and new flame and gas detection products and systems from conception to general product availability.

The candidate must have strong programming skills and will be responsible for crafting and implementing firmware systems that integrate with hardware designs. This involves communicating effectively with the team to determine feasibility and architecture strategy as well as being able to work with the project leads to understand the requirements of the project and translate them into efficient bug free firmware.

The engineer must be capable of owning the firmware design effort for multiple projects by both developing firmware for a specific project and coordinating the development of firmware for other projects being performed by other internal and external resources.

The candidate must be a great teammate with a “can do” attitude, be self-motivated and work with little supervision. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Working closely with project leads to help develop firmware requirement specifications and be able to transfer those requirements into a firmware design specification document.
Develop or drive the firmware architecture/development for flame and gas detection products and systems: hydrocarbon optical flame detectors and smoke detectors, combustible and toxic gas detection sensors, acoustic gas leak detectors, and signaling systems that comprise of the flame and gas detection sensors.
Work with varying brands of Microcontrollers and the ability develop firmware or to lead other Firmware Engineers in the development of code for a product.
Work closely with the Verification and Validation test group to resolve any coding issues or bugs.
Successfully plan and drive the completion of all documents required during the firmware development process such as (but not limited to) Firmware design specifications and SIL documentation.
Lead firmware design reviews.
Collaborate with outside vendors, consultants and customers as it pertains to product firmware.
Actively collaborate with other departments as required based on project requirements.
Provide, when necessary, firmware development support to sustaining and manufacturing engineering as needed.
Provide firmware support for existing products to resolve product issues.
Other tasks as assigned.
Essential knowledge & skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of software system requirements analysis, design, development, integration, and/or testing.
Strong C, C++ skills.
Knowledge of software design practices and IEC 61508
Experience using RTOS design methodologies and implementation.
Experience implementing digital communications in a safety system.
Strong debugging skills.
Strong understanding of electronic principles as they pertain to microcontrollers.
Strong background in analog to digital convertor implementation.
Uses best coding practices to improve maintenance and reliability
Experience with integrating digital and analog sensors such as Temperature, Humidity, Pressure and Accelerometers.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Background in electronic instrumentation firmware design and high level understanding of Physics and Chemistry as it pertains to Flame and Gas Detection
Knowledge in the use of complex lab instruments and equipment (DMM, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Data BUS Analyzers, Data Acquisition Units, Environmental Temperature Chambers).
Ability to write software tools to interface a computer with the product you craft
Understands basic hardware interfaces like I2C, SPI, GPIO, and UART
Proficient in other languages (C#, Java, Python, Julia)
Experience with using databases in software such as MSSQL and MySQL
Travel:
Up to 10% travel – both domestic and international travel required
