Full-Time Senior Director of Human Resources

Your Day-to-Day Work

In this role, you will develop and implement Human Resources strategies and planning for the Museum as well as handling day-to-day management in all HR areas. You will serve as point of contact for all employees regarding HR issues and will advise senior management on HR strategic planning and policy development. In addition, you’ll manage and coach the People and Culture Coordinator who is responsible for the recruitment and hiring for our 180+ staff.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Museum work place environment cultivates a sense of community, inclusiveness, safety and is always in line with our core organizational values.
  • Coach all levels of staff on performance issues and other matters
  • Manage and oversee the performance evaluation process.
  • Manage and develop employee professional development, morale and appreciation programs.
  • Manage and support the People and Culture Coordinator on all aspects of recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes
  • Manage all aspects of employee benefits, training, and workers compensation as well as employee termination processes.
  • Develop and oversee employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement program and payroll process.
  • Manage safety, wellness and health programs.
  • Administer and monitor all leave of absences, unemployment and worker’s compensation insurance claims.
  • Create and update policies and ensure that they are administered consistently across the institution.
  • Oversee the employee handbook for accuracy, legal compliance, and distribution.
  • Guide management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Oversee the management of payroll processing system, including required ACA forms and other reporting required by law.
  • Administer retirement plan and assist auditors during year end plan audit and discrimination test work.
  • Organize and maintain all employee files within state and federal regulations and standard HR guidelines.
  • Manage compliance and reporting for workers compensation and health and safety programs.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions, including developing policies and procedures.
  • Maintain all department records, reports, and personnel files and related records in accordance with applicable labor laws.
 What You Bring
  • 7+ years of HR experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a discrete and professional manner and maintain confidential information.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across all departments and establish productive, collegial relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience managing multiple projects, and being highly detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of labor regulations, state and federal compliance requirements and HR best practices.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and interpret and apply policies and regulations to specific situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to manage both the strategic and day to day operations.
  • The ability to engage in spirited discussion while maintaining perspective, a professional demeanor, and a sense of humor.
  • Experience with ADP.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus

This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits such as health insurance, vacation, 15 paid holidays, free admission into all of Balboa Park’s museums, and more.

Salary is $96,000.
