The Senior Director of Gift Planning is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects with the inclination to create a planned or major gift to the university, and manages a portfolio of prospects and donors while collaborating with partner gift officers throughout the university.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. At least three years of successful fundraising experience, including experience communicating with donors considering donating gifts of accumulated wealth. Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy. Travel is required to other locations, both on and off campus, within the region and to other areas of the country. Work is usually performed in an office setting or remotely when travel needs dictate. Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required. Knowledge of the principles of fundraising; knowledge of the financial, tax, and legal aspects of charitable giving as well as an enthusiastic willingness to expand that knowledge base. Familiarity with the various gift planning vehicles and how to apply them in an individual situation. The ability to understand and articulate the objectives of the University Advancement division, and to integrate and execute individually assigned goals within those objectives. An interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the university’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent working relationships with university constituencies. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of public higher education. Demonstrated success as a team player and a good sense of humor. Adherence to the highest ethical standards, empathetic disposition, perseverance, optimistic, intellectually curious and positive attitude. Sensitive to matching the needs and priorities of a donor with those of the university. Ability to work both independently and as part of a high performing team. Capacity to work quickly while paying attention to details. Must be able to work under pressure of deadlines and well-defined goals. Works independently and provides updates to supervisor and related stakeholders as needed. Generally prioritizes, initiates contacts and sets own travel schedule. Must be self-motivated in initiating contacts with prospects, also expected to work in a collegial manner with development team in creating and implementing overall department strategies leading to new gift opportunities. In addition to these general skills and ability, the position requires the ability to lead, participate in, and advise all aspects of a donor’s gift process and to maintain consistent stewardship contacts with assigned donors.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution. At least three years of successful fundraising experience in higher education. A basic knowledge of proposing and closing various estate and life income gifts is desired.
