What You’ll Do

The Senior Director will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project assigned by their manager, the CEO:

  • Develop, manage and deliver a clearly defined fundraising strategy, including short- and long-term measurable goals that will meet the fundraising goals outlined in NUF’s Strategic Plan and lead to consistent growth in revenue to meet operation and program needs
  • Cultivate and grow a portfolio of major individual and institutional funders

  • Manage overall messaging, strategic communications and marketing for the organization
  • Develop and execute compelling communications (e-communications, social media, direct email marketing messages, peer to peer website and other public-facing content, including the annual report) to engage existing and new audiences and lead to measurable action
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral
  • Manage social media platforms and cultivate and manage media contacts

Who You Are

  • You are deeply committed to racial equity work.  Throughout your career you have demonstrated a consistent and deep connection to BIPOC communities and have continued to build your own knowledge and understanding about the many ways systemic racism has and continues to marginalize people of color.  You are committed to amplifying the voices and opportunities for the BIPOC community. And you bring a commitment to racial equity work in all of your work on fundraising and communications.
  • You get stuff done. You understand what it means to be both thoughtful about developing a strategy and detail-oriented about getting work accomplished. Whether it’s on your own, or through collaboration with others, you bring experience, effective communication and great organizational skills that allow you to get the nuts and bolts in place to make progress on your goals.
  • You are an independent self starter and a dedicated team member. You are comfortable working independently and understand your role and priorities in the context of the organization’s goals and overall mission. You’re also a pro at managing up, helping bring in the CEO and other members of the Executive Team when and where you need them with the greatest of ease. You can work on any project, with any team, and make magic happen. You are humble and driven to ensure you meet your goals.
  • You are an expert relationship builder and storyteller. Connecting with individuals comes naturally to you; you’re an empathetic listener and connector. You are also a compelling storyteller, finding connections between individuals and the work at National Urban Fellow.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in development and communications, and at least 3 years in a senior management role ideally in a high-growth organization.
  • Preference for individuals who have made successful fundraising asks from individuals and foundations (minimum ask amount: between $100,000 to $250,000).
  • Relevant graduate degree preferred.

Why Work with Us

At NUF, we create change agents.  Working with us means that you will have:

  • Flexibility in your working schedule.  This includes things like working from home. This also means that you have just over 1 months’ time each year to spend it how you like thanks to a generous PTO policy.
  • Access to health care when you need it most. Whether it be medical, vision, dental, or disability, we’ve got you covered. We will begin by offering a benefits stipend and will then offer benefits in house to ensure that you and your family are taken care of during these uncertain times.
  • An impact on the future of National Urban Fellows. We are in growth mode, hiring critical leadership roles across many areas of the organization. Joining at this moment in time will enable you to shape the future of the organization and be a part of building ongoing support for our work.
  • Opportunities to learn and grow.  Learning is a way of life at NUF which means that you can take courses to help build your skills.  Because we are a small team, it means that you can take on new projects that you might not be able to in a larger organization.
