Reports To: Network Engineer Manager

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt

How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

The Security Network Engineer maintains and supports EGPAF’s entire computing infrastructure located in the United States and Africa, and designs and administers EGPAF’s security systems. They lead the installation and support of WAN, LAN and Internet connectivity, and protects these systems from cyber threats, malware, and hacking attempts. The Security Engineer works closely with the Network Engineer Manager to plan IT departmental strategies, develop policies and procedures and coordinate the efforts of other IT team members.


No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role??

Technical Support

  • Act as the primary SME for security by actively monitoring IT threats and ways to mitigate them; manage SSL certificates.
  • Manages VoIP phone service infrastructure for DC & LA; act as secondary support for telecom issues.
  • Provides backup assistance to the Support Team when help is required on Tier 1 & 2 issues; focus on networking and security.
  • Provides concierge service to ELT members.
  • Act as the SME for network and security monitoring; utilizes our tools to report on network activities.
  • Develop security and network reports for distribution to global IT staff.
  • Develop remediation strategies for security issues and threats.


Application Support

  • Act as the primary SME for EGPAF’s security monitoring tools.
  • Act as the primary SME for VMWare.
  • Act as the primary SME for our backup systems.


Server/Network Support

  • Work with network team to set up and support server systems.
  • Manage the DC and LA office networks and their hardware/software, including a SAN, VMWare, switches, routers, the wireless, UTMs, and the VPN.


Departmental Support

  • Design and manage of US based conference rooms; make recommendations regarding future needs and tech.
  • Lead country 1 on 1 calls with Africa teams; coordinates the agenda, manage meetings, provide notes and follow-ups.
  • Coordinate quarterly Africa IT calls; develop the agenda, manage meeting, provide notes and follow-ups.
  • Work closely with Africa IT teams whenever they require assistance with their networking or security.
  • Work with network/security engineers and the Custom Development and Business Systems divisions to create and maintain runbooks for all servers and applications.
  • Actively manage disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Supporting special on-site office and/or IT projects as they arise.


To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or commensurate experience.
  • 5 years of experience in WAN/LAN implementation, support experience, and experience in an IT security role.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following leadership competencies: problem solving, decisiveness, accountability, and communication.


Bonus points if you have:

  • Relevant security certification (CISSP, CISA, CISM, Security+, etc.)
  • Microsoft suite of software for servers and clients
  • Network security architecture and policies (UTMs, routers, etc.)
  • WAN configuration and maintenance skills (VPNs, remote connectivity, etc.)
  • IT system management utilities
