ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews’ Global Technology Program (GTP) advances the digital safety of human rights defenders, civil society and journalists, advocates for digital rights and protections for the world’s most vulnerable populations and works on safeguarding online civic space.

GTP focuses on local and regional needs and connects them at the global level to demand an inclusive, safe, and open web. We seek to build comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and analysis of online harmful speech and its impact on online and offline civic spaces. We aim to counter the impacts of online harmful speech by engaging with social media platforms, journalists, and civil society organizations working on the ground.

The GTP Seasonal Project Assistant will assist with logistical, research, and administrative support for Internews’ GTP’s Protecting Civic Society team. They will have the opportunity to gain experience in program administration and Internews’ work to foster independent media and access to information worldwide. This seasonal position will report to the GTP Protecting Civic Society team and will work closely with the Senior Program Associate.

 

LOGISTICS

This is a remote-based position, however preference will be given to candidates in the United States and those who are able to work in the Coordinated Universal Timezone.

All remote candidates will be considered. However, you must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews. Additionally, there are locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

Program Administration Support:

The Seasonal Project Assistant will assist with the following tasks related to administration and implementation of internet policy programs:

  • Research and data analysis in support of program activities;
  • Assist with program logistics, including meeting schedules and event preparations;
  • Assist with invoicing, expense payments and other basic financial procedures;
  • Update and monitor financial and programmatic trackers to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Assist with report review and compilation as needed;
  • Monitor and collect partner deliverables and reports;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • In all duties, an understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

 

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree or current college student;
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing;
  • Background in internet freedom, media development, social media monitoring, political science, international relations, or communications is preferred but not required;
  • Editorial and/or copyediting experience.

This is a part-time paid position starting ASAP. The Seasonal Project Assistant would work roughly 20 hours/week to support program staff as needed. Applicants must submit both a cover letter and resume to be considered for the position. Only those applicants under consideration will be contacted.

**Please note that successful candidate will initially be offered a contract running to December 30, 2021, with possibility of extension subject to funding.
