As a standalone entity within the MOD, the SDA has been created as a high-performing organisation, bringing together existing expertise with heightened managerial, commercial and procurement capability to ensure the excellence and cost-efficient delivery of the UK’s nuclear submarine assets for decades to come. In addition to procuring the replacement of the current Vanguard class with its successor, Dreadnought, the organisation also manages the in-service aspects of the Astute class submarines and its follow-on vessel. The SDA is also responsible for the decommissioning and dismantling of 27 ex-service nuclear submarines under its Submarine Dismantling Project (SDP) and this vacancy is to work in the SDP team.

Our Project Management function is tasked with the delivery of equipment and support in order to meet our agreed Command Acquisition and Support Plans (CASPs). The expertise within Project Management includes: project, programme & portfolio management (P3M); safety & acquisition life cycle and business cases.

As a Project Manager, you will play a pivotal part in the delivery of projects, You will be working as the Senior Project Manager onsite and therefore will take ownership & accountability for the project.

Key Duties:

• Ability to build relationship & communication with stakeholder (internal/external)
• Confidence in your ability & knowledge (be the go to person onsite)

Responsibilities

As part of the role, your duties will involve:

• Be accountable for projects over their life cycle (define, delivery, close and support) by leading on design, planning and implementation of projects to ensure they are delivered on time, to cost and performance
• Securing the provision of resources needed for projects from internal and/or external providers, and developing and controlling budgets against them
• Determine the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints
• Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues and quality management including establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for delivery of projects)
• Managing and advising multiple stakeholders and customers on complex issues including delivery of strategy, or management of large scale projects
• Supporting technical staff to develop project management plans, input to Business Case, financial submissions, use dashboards to record project progress and hold contractors to account
• Work with a small multi-discipline teams

To be considered for the role, your CV must demonstrate one of the following:

• Qualification from the Association of Project Managements Professional – APMPQ or APMPPQ
• An equivalent International Project Management Authority Level C qualification (or higher)
• PRINCE 2 Practitioner
• Extensive complex Project Management experience
• Leading large multi-disciplined teams
• Sufficient experience is more highly sought after than qualifications

Relevant experience should be able to cover most aspects of the following:

• Managing complex, technical, projects to time, cost and performance
• Establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of projects
• Securing the provision of resources of goods and/or services
• Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests
• An ability to build relations with internal and external partners which are critical in securing the strategic objectives of the business
• Working in an organisational environment of transformation and on-going change would be beneficial
•Time spent working in the civil or defence nuclear industry
•Time spent working on projects involving radioactive substances, radioactivity or radioactive waste treatment and disposal
• Ability to solve complex problems and experience working in a technical industry
• Key communications skills with stakeholders (Internal & External with conflicting interests.
