Job description

We at the Submarine Delivery Agency are now hiring for a Transition into Service (TIS) Engineering Manager to take up a position with the Dreadnought Supply and Support Team (DSST).

By joining us, not only will you become part of our close knit, supportive, multidisciplinary TIS team, but also a contributor to the Dreadnought Programme – a true national undertaking and of huge prestige for all involved.

DSST as an organisation is responsible for providing the “Into Service” function of the Dreadnought project, including technical assurance and support, risk management, maintenance management, technical documentation, crew training, spares provision and through life obsolescence management.

As a TIS Engineering Manager, you will lead on the delegated engineering inputs into the ongoing TIS work streams

Your strong engineering background and the ability to draw upon your experience of change management and of modifying and updating processes will see you thrive with us! Utilising your Mechanical/electrical and general engineering knowledge, you will evaluate the sustainability and rand supportability activities of a wide variety of equipment’s and assets on the Dreadnought Submarine.

You will play a key part in ensuring that all of the equipment transitioning into the submarine is fit for purpose and fully compliant, ensuring the equipment can be sustained throughout the life of the vessel.

Due to the nature of the projects involved, this role is open to applications from SOLE UK NATIONALS only.

Please note that this role could be based at the SDA offices in Barrow in Furness, Abbey Wood in Bristol or HMNB Clyde, HM Naval Base, Faslane. If based at Bristol or Faslane, this role will require regular travel to the SDA site at Barrow-in-Furness and various Stakeholder sites as the programme requires

This role, if based at Barrow offers successful applicants the following for relocation:
External Applicants: First Appointment Expenses up to a limit of £8,000
Internal Applicants: Internal candidates will be eligible for full relocation expenses.

Responsibilities

A significant part of your role will be strong and regular communication with a wide variety of stakeholders including; regulators, the In-Service team and other members of the Dreadnought Alliance.

You will build strong working relationships and use your ability to identify and manage potential issues or risks related to new, or changed equipment, communicating these effectively so that resolutions can be sought.

Utilising engineering artefacts from design and build plans, you will establish and maintain the integrity of systems and equipment and liaising with suppliers to support the Dreadnought programme with spares where needed.

You will be responsible for developing and providing supporting documentation for equipment and systems to the Royal Navy Customer including user manuals and complex support and training documentation.

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• L4 qualification (or higher) in an engineering subject or the equivalent experience
• Experience of managing multiple stakeholders
• Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes

It would benefit your application if you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Electrical engineering experience
• Engineering experience in the marine industry
