FTE: Full-Time, Temporary

University Prep is seeking a talented, engaging and compassionate Robotics and Engineering Intensive Lead Teacher to help us advance our vision of being an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual in a diverse student population. We are looking for someone who can work effectively independently as well as part of a team. We need a leader who understands best practices in teaching robotics and engineering and who is passionate about teaching to middle school students and enhancing student life. What Intensives Are:

Intensives are three-week academic terms that take place in January and May, during which each student takes one class full-time. Intensive classes earn equal credit as semester classes, and intensive courses may be required or elective.

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, on a full-time basis, design and teach one section of Introduction to Robotics and Engineering to seventh and eighth grade students. This class is a hands-on, design-oriented introduction to small robotics such as VEX, Arduino, and artificial intelligence, as well as the engineering design process.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Designs the curriculum and learning environment
  • Provides classroom instruction and management
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
  • Since safety and security are everyones responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university in the subject of instruction or a related subject
  • Experience teaching at the grade level or working with adolescents

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years teaching experience, preferably in an intensive context
  • An advanced degree in education or the subject area
  • Experience with technology in the classroom such as personal devices, laptops, etc.
  • Experience with being part of a teaching team
  • Outdoor, travel and/or coaching experience at any level

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Flexibility, energy, enthusiasm and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
  • Commitment to teaching the whole child
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent students
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to organized and present curriculum with passion and creativity
  • Energy and enthusiasm for collaborative work
  • Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
  • Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office and Google Drive, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
  • Comfort operating Audio/Visual equipment
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
