The Risk Manager position is responsible for determining the financial and operational risks facing ABARTA, and implementing steps to mitigate those risks through planning, problem-solving, inter department collaboration, and third-party providers. The position requires excellent quantitative and analytical aptitude, with the technical flexibility to address a variety of business processes. Communication skills must be highly developed as to clearly explain and implement risk strategies and tactics. The Risk Manager must also be able to think creatively and envision risks that might be otherwise unnoticeable to others.


  • Identify risks facing the organization, including financial, safety and security risks
  • Develop action plans to decrease risk factors, including management controls and contingency plans
  • Understand financial reporting and information, including key drivers and underlying detail
  • Work collaboratively with company’s insurance broker to fully understand insurance protections
  • Evaluate existing insurance policies and structure for weaknesses and appropriate coverage
  • Function as the company’s lead representative in Raffles, a captive insurance program which incorporates elements of both self-insurance and risk sharing, including fully understanding and monitoring financial position, promoting its resources within the company, participating in membership obligations/meetings
  • Actively manage claims process, including legal and claims reserve work flow
  • Forecasting and tracking cash impact of overall insurance profile
  • Interface with company’s safety and workers compensation mangers to identify, control and reduce exposure


  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, or related field
  • 10 years of experience as a risk analyst/manager or related role
  • Knowledge of claims process
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance and risk assessment
  • Excellent customer service skills; good communication and computer skills; strong mathematical and problem-solving skills needed
