We provide outreach, hospitality, health care, case management, housing, job placement services, and advocacy. We have established a national presence and are known for sharing best practices in the field.

Summary: 

The Brooks Program provides short-term housing services to families experiencing homelessness in the District. The building contains 50 units and is in Northwest DC. The program follows a Housing First model philosophy and utilizes best practices to ensure participants can be transitioned out of short-term family housing to independent housing within 90 days. The role will ensure an efficient and safe working environment for employees and the participants at the short-term family housing site, providing supervision to the Residential Team (Residential Aides, Lead Residential Aides, and Shift Supervisors), and manages the shift scheduling of residential staff to ensure adequate 24/7 coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and performance management of the Residential team (Residential Aides, Lead Residential Aides, and Shift Supervisors).
  • Must flex weekly schedule to provide regular scheduled supervision meetings with all residential staff on a reoccurring basis to provide appropriate support, coaching and development to team members.
  • Creates the weekly and monthly schedules for the residential team, providing backup if no coverage is found.
  • Submits monthly residential team schedule to the Operations Manager and Assistant Operations Manager.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule with Operations Leadership to provide afterhours support for residential staff.
  • Conducts monthly meetings with residential team members.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and is actively engaged in program activities and initiatives.
  • Perform daily quality assurance for residential staff logs (daily shift log, kitchen and meal log, resident curfew log, etc.) and following up with team members when necessary.
  • Work closely with Operations Leadership and HR Talent team on recruiting needs and staff performance matters.
  • Provides appropriate oversight of the participants at the short-term family housing site and enforces program policies.
  • Provides an efficient and safe working environment for participants, employees, and visitors at the short-term family housing site. This includes ensuring spills are attended to and universal precautions are utilized
  • Reviews, explains and provides each family with a copy of the program rules for the short-term family housing site during intake.
  • Maintains files for employees’ certifications, trainings, etc.
  • Ensure the quality assurance and the submittal of all Unusual Incident Reports (UIR’s) in the appropriate time frame.
  • Submits unit inspection reports collected from the Residential Aides to Department of Human Services (DHS).
  • Assists with the receiving and distribution of food during meal services and the discarding of trash.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in human services.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with families and/or youth and knowledge of child development and child welfare is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of working in a homeless shelter or residential facility preferred.
  • Provides excellent customer service and reliability.
  • Understands the need for Universal Precautions
  • The ability to work effectively in association with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrate empathy when responding to staff and residents needs and requests.
  • Use practices including trauma informed care, verbal judo and other de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm, collected, and professional under stress.
  • Punctuality and ability to work independently.
  • Experience with computer programs, including but not limited to Microsoft office suit (word, excel, outlook, teams etc.)
  • Strong commitment to mission, organizational core values including racial equity and social justice.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Position will spend time between office/desk settings, and roving the occupied STFH floors and grounds of The Brooks. Position will view security camera and footage. Must be able to lift 25 lbs, Walking 70% of the time, bending at the knees, standing for extended periods of time

Background Checks:

The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check including FBI, Police background check (of the jurisdictions in which they have resided for the five years prior to employment) Child and Family Services Agency (CSFA) Child Protection Register/ DC Child Abuse Registry, and National Sex Offender Registry Department(s) of the jurisdictions in which they have resided for the five years prior to employment; Drug and Alcohol testing and TB testing.

  • Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $47,132.80 to $50,003.19 annually.  Depending on the position, the starting hourly pay rate or annual salary is based on a step system.  A candidate’s starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements, and current completed education, credentials and/or work experience.  Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation.  Before moving forward in the selection process, interested applicants are encouraged to discuss starting pay eligibility with the Human Resources (Talent) Department.·
