Responsibilities
The Resident Assistant – Nurse Aide Trainee will work Regular Full-Time, Various Shift & Weekends. The primary function of the Nurse Aide Trainee will be to successfully complete the class room training as well as the clinical studies in order to pass the NYS Nurse Aide Training test.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will support the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and the Nursing Department in performance of care as a member of the team.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will provide care to residents assigned solely under the supervision of the NATP Coordinator/Clinical Supervisor, who will oversee the NA Trainee skills and evaluate his/her performance.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will assist in maintenance of care standards.
- Carry out assigned tasks in the admission of the resident to new environment and give care as directed.
- Contribute to resident teaching by performance of procedures as instructed and observe new procedures.
- Recognize and report to charge nurse signs and symptoms denoting change in resident’s condition.
- Acknowledge resident’s request and provide the requested service or relay the request to another more appropriate staff member.
- Discuss problems of performance concerning nursing care with charge nurse.
- Treat residents and co-workers with dignity and respect.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will participate in In-service programs, resident care conferences and staff meetings as assigned.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will assist in maintenance of environment conducive to providing quality care and observe effectiveness of care as assigned.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will assist in maintenance of a system for communication for nursing information for each resident:
- Participate in nursing reports and daily conferences by reporting nursing care data to nurse in charge.
- Use Comprehensive Care Plan in carrying out assignment.
- Follow written assignments to provide continuity of care.
- Understand the functions of the other persons involved in care of resident.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Document on the Daily Care Assessment, the treatment sheet, weight and vital signs sheets, and report Intake and Output information to the LPN when applicable.
- Foster a cooperative effort among other staff members in all departments.
- Transport residents to other departments and on the nursing units as needs arise.
- Understand functions of other staff members.
- Respect individual for ability, knowledge and skills.
- Utilize opportunities to promote better understanding of working relationships when in contact with residents, families, visitors, Nursing personnel, Medical staff and other health disciplines.
- Support Personnel policies.
- Recommend changes to nurse in charge.
- Assume responsibility to keep self informed.
- Report any personnel problems to charge nurse.
- Support new Nursing Home programs and policies.
- The Nurse Aide Trainee will attend no less than 6 hours of compensated in-service education in every six (6) month period.
- May be required to work on other shifts and units, as needed.
- May be required to perform other related duties, as needed.
- Follow established Infection Control procedures.
- Attend all required in-services and follow all department and facility policies and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent resident care and employee information and follow HIPAA and HIV regulations.
Qualifications
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. Education/Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess at least a 4th to 6th grade English literacy level; must be able to pass an English-language reading and comprehension test prior to admission to program; a High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- The candidate’s name will be checked on the OIG web site for fraud or abuse. A copy of the verification will be kept in the Nurse Aide Trainee’s personnel file.
- The candidate will be fingerprinted through the NYS DOH selected agency; fingerprints results will be issued to the Authorized Person at VHS. A copy of the result will be maintained in the Human Resource Office.
