Internship Research Intern

Job Description

Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is seeking a Spring Semester Research Intern to focus on the department’s research outreach and communications strategy. The Research Department studies how gun violence occurs in America and identifies the best policies and interventions to prevent and address it. In this role, the Research Intern will contribute to the dissemination of Everytown’s research products beyond our current focus on news media to expand efforts to reach gun violence prevention advocates, researchers, podcasts, and other new audiences.. The position will report to a Research Associate and sit on the Research team as part of the Law and Policy department, and is based in our New York City office, with an option to work remotely, for 15 hours a week. This is a spring semester internship, with the possibility of extending into the summer as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage content in the department’s monthly newsletter, website, “Safety in Numbers” blog
  • Help to build and maintain a product publication and outreach (editorial) calendar for internal use across teams
  • Conduct one-off outreach to partner organizations, academics, researchers, and stakeholders to distribute content.
  • Work closely with Everytown’s social media and comms team to strategize new promotion tactics and potential arenas to elevate Everytown Research’s products and researchers.
  • Utilize MailChimp’s Audience Analytics, Google Analytics, and other tools to evaluate product reach and audience growth.
  • Help to maintain the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund wordpress website
  • Assist the team in routine research administrative tasks, as and when required
  • Interact regularly with Everytown staff across all departments to ensure effective coordination and delivery of research program activities

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student
  • Able to tailor research content to different audiences who may have varying degrees of expertise and knowledge;
  • Working knowledge of digital media trends and strategies, with an emphasis on content marketing and social media
  • Hands-on experience in content planning management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, creative content (text, image, video) design skills a plus
  • Must be well organized, able to multitask and to field simultaneous requests
  • Flexibility to assist with other projects for the Research Department as needed
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to a fast-paced environment

The pay rate for this position is a minimum of $17 per hour.
