Description

Gryphon Scientific is seeking applicants with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the life sciences for Research Assistant (RA) positions. As an RA, you will collaborate on projects in data management and analytics, science communications and outreach, and research and preparedness for health threats, including COVID and influenza. A core aspect of RA work involves collection and curation of data from published literature and other sources to support data sharing, in silico research, and dissemination of information to diverse audiences. RAs may learn and apply coding skills to curate and analyze large, heterogenous datasets, or hone skills in scientific engagement and outreach through creation of infographics, social media, web content, and plain language scientific reports. Projects involve collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and incorporate meeting support, science writing, data quality control, visualization, analytics, and design. RAs will support efforts to facilitate data dissemination, advance biomedical research, and guide leaders in biomedical science, biosecurity, and biodefense. RAs have the opportunity to interface with experts and think critically and creatively to tackle stimulating projects in a wide range of exciting fields. This RA position will primarily support projects in Gryphon’s Data Management and Communications practice, but RAs may have the opportunity to work on projects in other practices. (Note, you will not be involved in laboratory work; there is no lab on the premises.)
Duties

Gain familiarity and understanding of topics including but not limited to infectious diseases, immunology, biomedicine, biotechnology, biosurveillance, and/or public health
Collect and abstract information from peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, and other sources for various analytic and strategic coordination tasks
Curate and distribute diverse immunology and infectious disease datasets, including biosurveillance, experimental, preclinical, and clinical research data
Create articles, infographics, and other written and visual products to convey data and information to the scientific community and public
Prepare static and interactive data reports and dashboards, as well as presentations for various stakeholder groups
Perform project-related logistics and support functions, including note-taking during meetings, training, and communications to various stakeholders
Provide status updates to project managers and team members and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams
Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a life science discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field).
GPA 3.0 or higher (out of 4.0) during final two years of college.
U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements
Required Skills

Experience or training in infectious diseases, immunology, virology, or biomedical sciences
Proficiency in methods of scientific research and collecting, organizing, and interpreting data from published sources
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to apply knowledge of scientific concepts, technical data management, and/or design skills to a variety of topic areas
Attention to detail and ability to follow processes and standard operating procedures
Ability to write emails and create products without errors
Organizational skills
Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams

Additional Skills and Experience

Proficiency in Excel or Tableau
Experience with Adobe software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
Experience in web design or UI/UX
Experience conducting Twitter campaigns
Experience using Python, R, or SQ
