RESEARCH & EVALUATION FELLOW

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Research & Evaluation Fellow to advance the Wikimedia movement’s vision of every human being able to freely share in the sum of all knowledge; as well as its strategic direction – that by 2030, Wikimedia will become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge, and anyone who shares our vision will be able to join us.

You will be part of the Global Data & Insights Team in the Operations Department. The role of the team is to support Wikimedia Foundation staff in using data to learn from their work and improve decisions. Reporting to the Senior Evaluation Strategist, you will support the internal evaluation of the organization’s key capacity-building activities.

You are responsible for:

  • Researching and recommending best practices for developing internationally relevant survey measures for race/ethnicity, neurotypicality, and other complex survey design elements;
  • Cleaning, analyzing, and summarizing both quantitative and qualitative data;
  • Synthesizing data from multiple discrete evaluations to provide insight into program impact and progress; and
  • Identifying useable trends and themes across datasets that can inform reports and decision-making.

Skills and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s or Doctoral program in the social sciences, education, international development, public policy, public health, evaluation, or a related field;
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work systematically to ensure accuracy and quality;
  • Experience with developing social science research tools;
  • Experience summarizing data for reporting and analyzing datasets using Excel, SPSS, R, Python, STATA, or other statistical software;
  • Experience analyzing and summarizing qualitative data; and
  • Experience with or exposure to ethical data management and privacy practices.

Additionally, we’d love it if you have:

  • Interest in or knowledge of Wikimedia projects, the free knowledge movement, global education and/or international development;
  • Experience with international or multilingual data landscapes; and
  • Experience with international development, non-profit, or social movement research, and/or working with volunteers.
