Full-Time Quality Assurance Manager

Job Description

Position Overview  

The Quality Assurance Manager will oversee a quality assurance team, in their development, implementation and maintenance of a system of quality and related testing of software developed by Step Up For Students or one of its partners.  The manager must be strategic and adapt the team and its services to meet technological or process advances and the ever-changing needs of the organization.

Essential Functions 

  • Lead and manage a team of Quality Analysts with an overall goal of optimizing quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, lead, and cultivate the QA methodology and practices.
  • Recruit, retain, grow, and guide members of the team.
  • Act as key point of contact for all QA aspects of software deliverables, providing QA services and coordinating QA resources.
  • Champion root-cause analysis with an aim towards reducing defects in the delivery stream.
  • Maintain the Test Management tool and ensure that Test Cases are organized and up to date.
  • Communicate and mentor quality standards to the QA team, development team, and other appropriate staff within IT.
  • Provides recommendations for improvements based on industry best practices
  • Create and execute test strategies of products that verify enhancements meet business requirements and user expectations.
  • Identify, measure, monitor, effectively communicate and escalate quality risks and mitigation strategies to business stakeholders, product and project leadership and management.
  • Detect and catalog defects with appropriate detail so they can be resolved quickly and effectively.
  • Design, create and run manual, automated functional, performance, load or volume tests as required to assure quality.
  • Proactively engage in professional learning regarding the QA and Software Testing industry to strengthen individual contribution to the team.
  • Collaborate with Software Development, Product Owners or Project Management team members to verify products retain a high-quality standard among our users.
  • Document and communicate test results to project team and management to facilitate a decision for release.
  • Identify and analyze issues, bugs, defects, and other problems, then recommend and facilitate solutions to these issues.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others.

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences or Computer Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.   Certification from a professional organization specific to Software Development, Software Testing, or Quality Assurance, preferred for example the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ITQSB) or Certified Quality Engineer (CSQE).  Experience working within an Agile software development lifecycle (SDLC). Previous experience (3 yrs) of Quality Assurance Management and prior experience in Quality Assurance Testing.  Experience using software repository tools such as Git.  Experience using automated QA tools such as Selenium and Jenkins.  Experience using load and performance tools such as JMeter and  Experience testing APIs and utilizing tools such as Postman.  Experience with Visual Studio Team Services or Azure DevOps.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Experience working within an Agile and iterative development process.
  • Experience working within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Experience working with complex software projects.
  • Proficient at writing complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with testing a Data Warehouse and ETL, cubes and reports
  • Understanding of the software testing lifecycle.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of QA methodology.
  • Proven ability to optimize smaller, distributed teams and scale them for dynamic growth.
  • Understanding of quality management principles and practices with ability to apply in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Knowledge of functional, compatibility, usability, reliability, exploratory, performance, load and volume testing practices.
