Full-Time Project Manager, Product Development- S&T

Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Project Manager is responsible for driving new generic pharmaceutical or reformulation products from project approval through commercial launch by collaborating with technical leaders and by leading cross functional core teams.  This role includes ownership of project initiation, core team leadership, risk management, schedule, cost monitoring and control, effective team communication and other responsibilities required to efficiently and successfully launch new products.  The Project Manager is also responsible for process improvements to ensure performance against industry benchmarks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Aggressively manage development cost to drive cost below industry benchmarks.  Maintain an expense forecast that maintains the project within established limits.
  • Work with the functional leaders to assemble the appropriate project team members throughout the life of the project and to ensure ongoing technical quality of product development.
  • Aggressively manage development schedule to drive time to meet, or improve on, industry benchmarks.  Maintain a project schedule per the approved template throughout the project.
  • Perform and document routine risk assessments and before critical milestones, such as pre-Exhibit and Validation.  Ensure risks are mitigated to a team-accepted level.  Escalate risks that are not adequately mitigated.
  • Ensure that the CMO(s) scope of work is fully defined.  Ensure unique development or procurement needs are addressed.
  • Understand the procurement elements that drive the project schedule and ensure milestones are met.  This includes obtaining API, RLD, excipients and packaging.
  • Know and complete the required inputs for planning of new products ahead of launch.
  • Understand the markets where the product will be sold and the requirements for entry into those markets.  Be able to make keep/kill recommendations rapidly after receiving market intelligence.
  • Drive value improvement through development time and cost reduction, COGS management and risk reduction.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvements in the operations of projects, the Program Management group and other functional groups.
  • Work collaboratively within the Project Management team to challenge and improve upon one another’s plans.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology or other related technical field.

Experience:

At least 3 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, with at least 1 years in a product development role.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Lean Leader and DFSS certification strongly preferred

Project Management Professional certification preferred

Skills/Competencies:

The candidate must have

  • Strong team leadership, facilitation, communication skills and inter-personal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office automation software, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project
  • Strong cost forecasting and tracking capabilities
  • Exceptional time schedule and scope management competence

SCOPE / RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS:

This role requires self-supervision, frequent team management and functional collaboration.
