Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent classified Program Specialist 2 to support the Network Technology department. This position is responsible as the initial single-point of contact for our students. This position is 100% in-person and the successful candidate will join a cohesive team helping to fulfill the needs of a growing department.

This position primarily engages in student recruitment, retention, and job placement.  They will coordinate and collaborate with other college departments within Student Services (Recruiting, Admissions, Advising, Career Services) and manage communications with department faculty, staff, and administrators.

  • Student recruitment: Develop and implement a recruiting strategy that will include all activities for potential student lead generation, screening and placement into the network technology programs.
  • Student retention: Develop and implement a retention strategy that will include all activities for regular student engagement, and potential early student intervention and direction to support services, and as a liaison between faculty, staff, and administrators to coordinate support efforts for students in need.
  • Student job placement: Manage developed employer relationships as the point of contact for those employers in both internships and jobs for our students. Coordinate efforts with the Career Services department.

The scope of area for recruiting is approximately a 100-mile radius from campus but will consist primarily of the Vancouver/Portland metro area.  The schedule will occasionally include evenings and weekends.  The average week would include occasional field travel performing school visits and recruitment events, and mostly doing in-house research, student success and enrollment management, and reporting. The successful candidate will be professional, possess strong written and oral communication skills, relationship management skills, and be able to develop and deliver persuasive presentations to groups of various sizes.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Generate, track and follow-up on potential student leads.
  • Assist students with navigating the college system and help with removing barriers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local high schools, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Attend recruiting events such as school visits and career fairs, on-campus programs and tours, as well as other events such as Prof-Tech Day, Veterans Affairs, etc.
  • Work with department faculty and associated staff and administrators and implement an annual recruitment plan for the network technology programs.
  • Work with department faculty to assist with internship placement of screened candidates.
  • Coordinate with employers to align their hiring needs with the availability of our graduating students.
  • Assist in retention of current students.
  • Collaborate with key campus stakeholders including advising, financial aid, and enrollment services to ensure effective student matriculation.
  • Partner with Communications and Marketing to create promotional materials and maintain website information related to the programs.
  • Work to achieve and support diversity objectives as established by the college.
  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values established by the college, furthering goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.
  • Perform related duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Education: Some college coursework.
  • Experience: Demonstrated work experience in at least one of the three areas listed below:
    • Commissioned sales experience or equivalent related experience in recruiting
    • Counseling experience or equivalent experience directing people one-on-one towards established goals
    • Customer service experience or equivalent experience working directly with customers to assist them and resolve issues
  • Computer Skills: Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook as well as experience data mining and using various internet tools.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse groups and individuals; strong public speaking skills to large and small groups.
  • Coordination and Organization Skills: Ability to effectively coordinate activities, services, and schedules to ensure smooth and efficient operation of work with a strong attention to detail.
  • Work Independently: Ability to work independently and accomplish duties with limited supervision in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and attention to detail.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to various recruiting sites, occasional long distances (up to one hour) required.
  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 21-14.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. Your COVID-19 vaccine status must be validated by the Human Resources office prior to the commencement of work.   • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.

SALARY/BENEFITS: 

Starting Salary: $3,401/month                     Range:  42                           Code:  107I
