Full-Time Program Coordinator, Youth Education and Employment – 3 Month Contract

Friends of Ruby is dedicated to the journey and well-being of LGBTQI2S youth through a unique combination of integrated and tailored services in mental health, social support, and housing. We are committed to creating welcoming and safer spaces uniquely designed to help build community, emotional well-being, and confidence.

We distinguish ourselves by delivering an integrated transitional housing model to support youth towards independent living, impactful counselling modalities and therapeutic groups, social activities and practical supports that address multiple aspects of a youth’s life (e.g., health, education, employment).


Our services and programs are informed by LGBTQI2S youth, grounded in evidence and research, and led and facilitated by LGBTQI2S individuals. Our staff reflects the diversity of the youth we serve and are skilled in supporting youth towards independence and well-being. Ultimately, we want to help create a Canada where all LGBTQI2S youth are validated, included, and empowered to lead healthier lives.

Position Summary

Friends of Ruby is looking for a Program Coordinator to support our Program Manger, Youth Education and Employment in Summer 2022 with programming at the drop-in and transitional home. We are looking for a member of the LGBTQI2S community who has strong creativity and organization skills. In addition, someone who is comfortable asking questions and working collaboratively in a social and hands-on environment. The program coordinator will assist with the roll out of Friends of Ruby’s education and employment initiatives as well as the execution of current employment and education programs for youth.

Duties & Tasks

  • Conduct needs assessments for programs and services
  • Support with program design, implementation, and data tracking
  • Attend meetings and take notes
  • Review and provide feedback for program proposals
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to design programming for youth

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Enrolled or completed in an accredited program such as Child and Youth Worker, Community Development, Recreation and Leisure, Community Engagement, other related programs or years of experience
  • Must be out of school for 6+ months (exceptions may apply)
  • 15-30 years of age
  • Identifies as one of the following:
    • Canadian Citizen
    • Permanent Resident
    • Refugee
  • Satisfactory clearance under the Police Background Check
  • Ability to complete placement onsite
  • Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed
