Full-Time Program Coordinator

Job Description

You’re a strong leader capable of coaching or facilitating activities such as group fitness, rock climbing, yoga, hiking, cycling, team sports, social events, or boxing. This position will support The Phoenix’s launch in Houston, Texas, and will focus on direct community impact, partnership cultivation, and recruiting and activating volunteer instructors, as well as ensuring quality programming and fostering community relations.   • With support from the regional and national staff, work to build a robust sober active community in Houston and surrounding communities
  • Build a strong volunteer program, including recruiting, training, supporting and retaining a solid base of volunteers who will lead the majority of Phoenix classes
  • Build partnerships with organizations and groups to improve access to recovery support for those living in the Houston area
  • Facilitate events weekly (i.e. fitness, boxing, socials, etc.) in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment
  • Oversee general daily administrative needs and tasks of the Houston chapter and monitor program, facility, and equipment standards
  • Participate in a wide range of fundraising efforts
  • Support virtual programs as needed
  • Utilize various technology and social media platforms
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Work evening and weekend hours as needed




  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Experience coaching, instructing, or leading events or classes such as CrossFit, mountain bike rides, meditation, yoga or socials
  • Community relation skills and willingness to initiate introductions with potential partners
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • Organizational skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Proficiency with office equipment and computer software, including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and email




  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery
  • Knowledge and ability to assist individuals reentering from the criminal justice system who have substance use disorder
  • Certifications in relevant athletic disciplines (CF-L1, L2, or L3; NASM, NSCA, ACSM, or ACE Personal Trainer; AMGA-CWI, SPI, or Rock Guide; IMBA-L1; YT-200, etc.)
  • Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification
  • Program management or supervisory experience
  • Fluency in two or more languages
