Part-Time Part-time Sign Language Interpreter

Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a part-time, Sign Language Interpreter position to work in the Disability Support Services department. Under the direction of the Disability Support Services (DSS) Lead Interpreter, this position will provide sign language interpreting services for classroom and related activities. The number of hours and work periods will vary depending upon student enrollment, but the hours will not exceed 840 hours in any 12-month period.

The interpreter functions as the support service provider to facilitate communication between students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing through the use of sign language or oral interpretation/transliteration.

This part-time position is an ongoing recruitment in which applications are collected year-round. Positions will be filled as needs arise.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provide accurate interpreting services in a variety of settings that take place on different Clark campuses and in the community.
  • Gauge the accuracy and effectiveness of an interpreted communication while interpreting and adjust as necessary.
  • Adhere strictly to the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Ensure preparation for each assignment by reviewing assignments early, seeking course materials to aid in content knowledge, clarify details with the coordinator, and discuss logistics with your co-interpreter, as needed.
  • Show a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and seeks opportunities for continuous learning.
  • Possess a high degree of sensitivity and independent judgement in assisting individuals with disabilities.
  • Submit employment-related documents in a timely manner and completes required trainings within time frame given.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the college community.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with a diverse population.
  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 22-13.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. Your COVID-19 vaccine attestation status must be received by the Human Resources office prior to the commencement of work. Requesting a disability or religious exemption would be done through the Human Resources office.

 

Job Readiness/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to remain professional, enthusiastic and committed to service.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

 

 

SALARY RANGE: $35-50/hour. Varies depending on certification, education, and experience.
