The Recruitment Research Assistant will provide community engagement and recruitment support for research studies in the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention (LIDP)/Project ACHIEVE of the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute at the New York Blood Center. This position will provide support for the conduct of HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious disease epidemiology and prevention studies.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team involved in HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious epidemiology and prevention research, including HIV and COVID-19 vaccines and other biomedical preventions. The LIDP conducts National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored HIV and COVID-19 prevention studies.

This paid per diem position (part time or full time) requires a bright, self-motivated and highly organized individual with strong communication skills who is quick to learn new skills and techniques, and feels comfortable working independently as well as with others in a clinical research setting. The candidate must be available to work at least 20 hours per week on-site, minimum 6 months. The position is a paid per diem position.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Engage in recruitment and community engagement activities to support HIV and COVID-19 vaccine and prevention research studies, including social media outreach, in-person recruitment venues, posting online or in-person ads, and assisting with educational programs, special events and meetings to various audiences/stakeholders
  • Update project staff regularly on recruitment and community engagement activities and liaise with other staff on recruitment efforts
  • Work with study team to complete data collection, timely data input, program evaluation and development, and reporting of results.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks to include running and preparing various reports, conducting mailings, maintaining contact lists
  • Maintain and update website and social media accounts on relevant information including upcoming and past events and studies.
  • Conduct prescreening of interested study participants by phone or in person, schedule screening study visits, and assist with retention activities
  • Candidate will perform additional related administrative duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 1 year of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience preferred. Candidates with prior experience working with LGBTQ+ communities preferred.

Strong decision-making skills and independent problem solving is critical. Orientation to detail, ability to maintain accurate records, and handle multiple projects and interact with staff at all levels is required. Computer skills and strong communication skills are essential. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential.

Knowledge of HIV prevention strategies, HIV/ AIDS, COVID-19, and infectious disease or other clinical and laboratory research is a plus.
