Part-Time Part-Time Counselor at Men’s Emergency Shelter

Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Counselor is responsible for milieu management while engaging clients in a direct social service program. Time is divided among direct service, operations, and administrative responsibilities to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the program. Duties include client engagement, intake, assessment, advocacy, information and referral, problem solving and crisis intervention, in addition to meal preparation, laundry, and light janitorial assignments. This is a unionized position, represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).

**Effective 12/6/2021 all new hires to Compass Housing Alliance are required as a pre-condition of employment to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to their start date.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Compass Blaine Center is a 24-hour shelter program, that provides shelter for 43 male-identifying individuals. Guests access on-site housing navigation, hygiene services, daily meals, and a variety of case management resources to help eliminate barriers to stability. This intensive case management program is designed to move guest towards stable, permanent housing.

LOCATION: Downtown-Lower Queen Anne Neighborhood (Seattle, WA)
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: Saturday-Sunday 8am-4pm; with bi-weekly staff meetings Tuesdays 4-6pm
SALARY RANGE: $19.07 per hour (Step 1*) with additional $0.50 per overnight hour
*Step 2 increase of 2.5% after 12 consecutive months of employment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work experience is a key factor for success in this role. In addition, success in this role requires a passion for knowledge and drive for continuing professional development or education. High School Diploma or GED/Associate/Bachelor/Master’s degree in social work or related field would be a compliment to the required experience.
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in customer service, required.
  • At least 1-year experience in human services (work and/or volunteer), desired.
  • Awareness and/or training around issues of equity, intersectionality, and belonging.
  • Current WA State Food Handlers Permit, desired (If not current, will be sponsored within 1-month of hire).
  • Familiarity with issues of housing instability, mental health, substance use, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence, desired.
  • Experience working with clients with English as a second language or where there is limited English speaking ability.
