Freelance NoteWorthy Host/Producer

WDAV Classical Public Radio – Posted by rachelstewart Anywhere

Job Description

NoteWorthy is a multi-pronged, multi-platform initiative from WDAV Classical Public Radio which explores and showcases the work of artists who have been historically underrepresented in classical music. NoteWorthy focuses on the artistry of people of color, women, and others from marginalized and overlooked groups. We are looking for a host/producer for NoteWorthy audio modules which will be produced for radio broadcast and as a podcast. They will be developed looking toward possible future syndication.

NoteWorthy Audio Modules are…

Richly produced audio spots that tell the stories of classical artists who have been historically overlooked and underrepresented. Thoroughly researched and engagingly  written, the modules create meaningful opportunities for music discovery by classical audiences, generating positive exposure for artists and their work. General characteristics of individual modules:

  • Focus on one artist
  • 2 minutes in length
  • Consistent host
  • Include music which illuminates the copy and highlights the artist’s work
  • Include interview sound bites (when appropriate)

Host/Producer Responsibilities & Requirements:

We are looking for someone who has a passion for telling the stories of deserving classical artists who are people of color, women, and others long overshadowed by the historically Eurocentric, male orientation of the classical music world. Our host must be friendly and engaging with strong oral and written communication skills. They must have access to a recording space and equipment, whether at WDAV or elsewhere. Additionally, they must be able to work independently and meet deadlines. An understanding of basic audio recording and editing is extremely beneficial for the person in this position. Previous experience working in radio or podcasting as a host or producer is a plus but not required.

Duties include:

  • Voicing the NoteWorthy modules
  • Writing and editing scripts
  • Researching material for modules

Other possible duties include:

  • Interviewing artists, experts, and others
  • Recording and Editing audio

This is a contract position requiring 10-15 hours of work per week in the initial phases of the project. $25 – $30/hour depending on experience.

To apply for this position, please send an audio sample of your voice which demonstrates your sound and style reading copy or conducting interviews, a sample of your writing, cover letter, and resume. If you don’t have access to a recording facility, we will accept recordings made on mobile or other devices as long as the audio quality is clear and understandable. You can also submit any examples of audio pieces/spots you have produced.

Don’t feel like your experience aligns perfectly with this job’s qualifications? If you have a strong interest in this project and its subject matter and feel like you could make a significant contribution to it, please apply anyway.
