About the Role
In 2021, Represent Us is ramping up our efforts to defend democracy by combatting gerrymandering in key states across the country. We’re looking for a talented organizer, manager and campaigner ready to lead a team to work beyond partisanship to secure fair maps in the 2021 North Carolina redistricting process.
The Organizing Manager must be located in North Carolina (NC) and will be responsible for managing a team of field organizers to build organizing infrastructure in favor of fair redistricting practices. Following the redistricting process, they will be responsible for coaching and supporting volunteer leaders to run and win state and local campaigns to take on the corrupt political system and work for a democracy that is fair, accountable, and effective. The NC Organizing Manager will ultimately be responsible for meeting RepresentUs’ short and long term political and organizing goals in the state.
What you’ll be doing:
- Managing a team of field organizers to build public support in the state for fair district maps in 2021.
- Supporting, coaching and directing staff organizers to meet their organizing goals.
- As necessary, meeting in person with organizers to provide guidance and backup for their organizing events. Events may include grassroots lobby days, house parties, phonebanks, town halls, press conferences, volunteer trainings, rallies and more.
- Coordinating statewide training and events as necessary for volunteer leaders.
- Assuming responsibility for meeting volunteer recruitment and engagement goals within the state.
- Representing RepresentUs to press, partners and in coalitions.
- Develop relationships with political stakeholders, allied organizations, and local political committees;
- Secure media coverage. Support your team (and occasionally independently) execute media events and place letters to the editor.
- Participating in strategic planning, administrative tasks, and internal meetings as necessary.
- Planning – Work with the Organizing Director to develop appropriate field plans for your team and their turf.
- Reporting – Work with your team to track campaign progress, hours and qualitative updates with daily and weekly reports as required by the Organizing Director.
Skills and Experience
- 3-5 years of experience organizing in electoral, advocacy or related campaigns, ideally in the field of voting rights, campaign finance reform, and/or good governance issues.
- At least 1 year of staff management experience is required.
- Strong personal connection to North Carolina. You live or have lived and worked in the state.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with experience working with diverse coalitions or teams to accomplish shared goals.
- Self starter and problem solver. You’re not afraid of a challenge and will hit the ground running.
- Commitment to working beyond partisanship – experience with cross-partisan coalitions is preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and be able to travel regularly around the state.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Passion for voting rights, campaign finance reform, and/or good governance issues.
- Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to accommodate event schedules.

The annual salary range for the NC Organizing Manager position is $80,000-$87,000
