The Challenge
The NCDOT HBCU/MSI Fellows Program is hiring a Fellow to join our Division 14 team in our Arden Resident Engineer’s office. You will gain hands-on experience in the transportation construction/engineering industry, learn new business skills, and forge relationships with NCDOT professionals. Our Division 14 serves Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Polk, Swain, and Transylvania counties.
 
In this role you will:
    • Work on transportation engineering construction and maintenance projects in:
      • Inspections
      • Contract Administration
      • Roadway drainage and puddling issues
      • Traffic Signals and Signal Plans and Design
      • Congestion Management
    • Learn the inner workings of our NCDOT Resident Engineers office – from inspection to contract administration and everything in between!
    • Work in the field outdoors and at offsite locations.
    • Gain hands-on engineering skills in the real world.
    • Directly interact daily with all levels of transportation engineering teams, leaders, and administrators.
    • Collaborate with colleagues.
    • Present your fellowship findings and recommendations to our leadership panel near the end of your fellowship.
What You Bring
    • All majors are accepted with a preference for those with an interest in engineering and related fields.
    • Strong written and oral presentation skills. Able to communicate concepts to a variety of audiences.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and programs simultaneously and successfully in a dynamic environment.
    • Project management skills to prioritize effectively and navigate high-pressure situations with tight deadlines.
    • Bachelor/Master’s degree earned from an HBCU/MSI within the past 3 years.
    • North Carolina resident with a legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
    • Bonus Points for prior work/classroom experience in an area related to the fellowship!
