This is an exciting opportunity in Mississauga, Ontario for a Mechanical Designer Fuel Cell Power Systems.

This applied technology focused position applies specialized knowledge of engineering principles and design practices to create design concepts and mechanical design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability.

This role effectively communicates the capability of a design concept to meet cross-functional requirements including adherence to engineering standards and works effectively with other engineering and cross-functional disciplines to support resolution of product issues.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
* Design mechanical layouts and components for fuel cell system applications.
* Design work ranges from conceptual models through to detailed designs of individual parts for fabrication
* Research applicable industry / customer standards and apply to design.
* Liaison with suppliers.
* Source and evaluate new mechanical components and fabrication processes.
* Perform incoming inspections of components, including measurement and verification to designed specifications.
* Creation of Bill of Materials and part documentation in ERP database.

Skills

Cross-Functional Design Integration – Translates the value package requirements that include the voices of many stakeholders into virtual designs, and communicates the capability of the design through an approved cross-functional design review.

Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems – Acquires and applies an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems through working knowledge that guides a designer’s ability to create innovative and sound design concepts to meet Cummins and customer expectations; designs for requirements of all lifecycle stages by considering the customer requirements in different operating environments to ensure a robust system.

Mechanical Design Specification – Creates complete specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent; considers national, international, industry, and Cummins’ standards that accurately and concisely define the part specification.

Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis – Creates Computer Aided Design models in accordance with Cummins’ standards to represent architectural or product level system design concepts, and to enable completion of various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.

Product Problem Solving – Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

Product Reliability and Reliability Risk Management – Plans and manages critical reliability activities during new product development by preventing failures before hardware, detecting failures before the customer does, and improving products before production in order to release a reliable and durable product; evaluates key technical and program measures to assess the launch readiness of a new product using prescribed indicators, measures, risk scales and methods of tracking to focus attention on metrics to reduce risk and improve reliability.

Other required skills:

* Proficiency with Solid Edge CAD design software.
* Proficiency with Unigraphics NX CAD design software additionally preferred.
* Proficiency with hand-held measurement and other tools.
* Proficiency with Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
* Experience designing parts for a variety of fabrication techniques (CNC Machining, Sheet Metal Forming, Metal Casting, Plastic Molding).
* Experience designing welded fixtures and parts.
* Experience working with fluid / process systems.
* Experience working with electrical / electronic systems.
* Experience with FEA and CFD analysis preferred.
* Subject matter expertise with a variety and complex electromechanical systems.

Experience

* Minimum 5 years of design engineering experience in a similar role.
* At least 5 years of CAD experience.
* Previous work experience in a fast pace, high complex environment required.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

Bachelor of Science (or equivalent degree) in Mechanical Engineering or related field required. Higher degree preferred.

P.Eng. licensure under the Professional Engineers of Ontario preferred.
