Job Description

The Position:
This opportunity is generously supported by the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) Paid College Internship Program. AAMD’s program is designed to engage college students from underrepresented backgrounds, to encourage and nurture their career opportunities in the art museum field—while providing the
financial support necessary to make participation in an internship possible.

With a focus on the promotion of the Jewish Museum’s two summer exhibitions, Modern Look: Photography and the American Magazine and We Fight to Build a Free World, an Exhibition by Jonathan Horowitz, the Marketing & Advertising Intern will assist in the conceptualization, fulfillment, and analysis of marketing actions in support of audience development, attendance, and revenue goals. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Marketing, the internship will culminate in the intern preparing a case study for one of the summer exhibitions, summarizing campaign strategy, ad metrics, and KPIs (key performance indicators) including visitor intercept data, advance online ticket sales, general and public programs attendance, exhibition-related Shop product revenue, and new member joins. The Marketing & Advertising Intern will also have the opportunity to contribute to strategic planning for the promotion of the Museum’s fall 2020 exhibitions and their related offerings. The Jewish Museum marketing department serves as an arm of the Museum’s “in-house agency” which services the promotional needs of “client” departments across the organization. The marketing department spearheads all marketing and advertising initiatives in partnership and consultation with the Digital, Design, Visitor Experience, and Communications departments.

The Jewish Museum is committed to diversifying its internship pool to more adequately reflect its diverse audiences. The Museum therefore encourage candidates from a broad range of cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds and experiences, especially those which have been historically under-represented among museum professionals. As an identity-based institution, the Jewish Museum believes that serving the full breadth of its community requires cultural competency and enthusiasm for diversity of all kinds.

Responsibilities:

• Attend weekly marketing strategy meetings and production status meetings
• Assist in the preparation of strategic and creative briefs for “in-house client” department review and design studio use
• Assist in keeping the quarterly marketing calendar up to date
• Assist in targeting strategy, ad setup, and copywriting for Google Ads campaigns
• Conduct online research to help identify cross-marketing partner activities
• Adhere to production schedules, budgets, and deadlines
• Under the mentorship of the Associate Director of Marketing, develop a case study (whitepaper) containing a narrative that summarizes a selected exhibition’s persuadable audiences, campaign strategy, actions, and metrics, and a conclusion including learnings and recommendations
• Present the case study to a group of interns and staff at the end of the summer

Requirements:

• Strong interest or major in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related course of study
• Excellent writing ability (sample essays required); interest in ad copywriting a plus
• Study of, or desire to learn, qualitative and quantitative analysis
• Excellent attention to detail
• Responsible, proactive, team player
• Experience with or deep passion for fine and applied arts and culture a plus
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; Google Drive, Google Docs; Basecamp, and Slack

Eligibility:

• This opportunity is only available to undergraduate students enrolled in their sophomore, junior, or senior year
• Must have the ability to travel to two out-of-state professional development conferences, including the AAMD conference in San Francisco from May 17-20, 2020. Student will not be responsible for travel, registration, hotels costs or logistics
