University Prep is seeking a talented, compassionate and engaging Mandarin Chinese Teacher to teach a combination of Upper and Middle school courses. The UPrep Mandarin Chinese program includes instruction in language, culture, people and land. Our teachers use a variety of teaching methods to engage students in their learning and develop proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication. The teacher will work within a dynamic Languages department, including two other teachers of Mandarin.

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, and on a full-time basis, teaches Upper and Middle level Mandarin Chinese courses.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teaches four sections of Upper and Middle school Mandarin Chinese courses
  • Provides classroom instruction and management
  • Serves as a co-advisor to approximately 10 students in upper school
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate
  • Actively participates in the life of the school
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
  • Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
  • Vigorously engages in their own professional development
  • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university in Mandarin Chinese language or studies required
  • Masters degree preferred
  • 5+ years teaching experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Fluency in both written and spoken Mandarin and English required
  • Flexibility, energy, enthusiasm and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
  • Commitment to teaching the whole child
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of both Upper and Middle School-aged students
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
  • Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
  • Comfort with operating Audio/Visual equipment
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
