Job Description

Our team in Portland is about to launch an unprecedented and history-making product: .gay domain names. The new .gay top-level domain extension will technically function in the same way as .com, but its launch and use will be a historic opportunity to build and represent gay and LGBTQ+ communities.

The Manager of Marketing and Media position is a unique and exciting opportunity as you will lead the project internally and have the ability to influence and direct a new, headline-making product. We are looking for an experienced marketer and well-connected media liaison to lead the branding and marketing of the new .gay top-level domain (TLD) extension. There is broad interest in .gay and there will be discussion of .gay across all types of media, which you will manage. An ideal candidate will have experience working specifically with gay and LGBTQ+ community marketing and media. You will also build community recognition of .gay by working with gay and LGBTQ+ groups and organizations. This individual will produce all consumer, business, and community-facing marketing. You will also work with and manage an external PR firm, which we have yet to hire but believe may be necessary for a visible and successful product launch.

This individual will be a member of our team in downtown Portland. This is a new position and does not currently have any direct reports; there are other colleagues currently in the marketing department. We have existing relationships to produce graphics and other visual content.

We imagine multiple ways this position could grow within the organization. We could utilize your skills for our other products after the .gay launch, we could double-down and hire more .gay-specific teammates for you to work with, or we could do both and something else entirely! About .gay

The .gay TLD will function in the same way as legacy options, like .com and .org, and new options, like .design. The .gay domain has been one of the longest-delayed and most-anticipated TLDs to come from a recent expansion of the domain name system. We envision a .gay that is open, community-focused, safe, and exciting. We expect individuals and businesses will come to .gay to build and showcase community.

Please email CV to, as well as submit a written-response to the following: Please name at least one for-profit company that you believe has made a meaningful and positive impact on LGBTQ+ communities. What did they do, why was this important, and what did it mean to you?
