Full-Time Major Gifts Officer

Job Summary:

In collaboration with the Leadership Giving Director and Senior Director of Philanthropy, the Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for helping NRCM reach its fundraising goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts of $1,000 and above. This individual will manage a portfolio of 150-200 members and prospects, by designing and developing solicitation strategies; identifying gift opportunities that match donors’ interests; and personally soliciting gifts and continually stewarding major gift donors. Majority of travel within Maine, select trips to major cities throughout the US.

Preference will be given to candidates who live in Maine and/or can demonstrate knowledge of Maine geography as it relates to demographic patterns. The NRCM office is located in Augusta, Maine and this position is expected to be physically present in the office or other assigned locations when requested by departmental or organizational leadership for specific meetings/occasions.

NRCM requires full vaccination against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Full vaccination is considered to be two weeks beyond the second Pfizer or Moderna shots or beyond the Johnson & Johnson shot. NRCM is following state and federal recommendations in establishing guidelines for reopening the office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of 150-200 donors who give annually between $1,000-$4,999.
  • In collaboration with members of the Philanthropy Team, participate in each step of the donor pipeline including identification; qualification through research; cultivation; briefing; request for support; and prompt follow up, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Develop individual donor strategies, along with materials, to renew and upgrade donor gifts.
  • Document biographical, prospecting, and meeting notes in digital files as well as managing and updating moves management process.

 Metrics:

  • Conduct personal visits with major donors and prospects, scheduling a minimum of 10 significant visits monthly for the purpose of field research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Partner with Leadership Giving Director and Donor Engagement Coordinator to progressively increase Major Donor revenue.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of prior experience in a frontline fundraising role combined with experience soliciting 4-figure gifts.
  • Experience utilizing fundraising database programs (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors while effectively moving them through a Moves Management process. Experience with both highly engaged donors as well as making qualification calls.
  • Experience identifying giving opportunities and thinking creatively and strategically to establish matches between donors and funding priorities. Ability to grasp and articulate complex programs in a way that meets the interests and passions of donors.
  • A high level of initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Skill in successfully managing multiple projects on tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
