Full-Time Maintenance Custodian

Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent classified Maintenance Custodian. This position reports to the Custodial Services Manager is responsible for performing custodial work on main campus or offsite campus.

  • Perform minor repairs on machinery, mechanical facilities equipment and systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of equipment such as: electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen, laboratory and air conditioning equipment: changes oil, greases, changes or cleans filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts and bearings to ensure proper operation.
  • Monitor safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure that building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition.
  • Sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing or stripping floor finish, applying new finish, and buffing/burnishing floors.
  • Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance.
  • Take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions.
  • General cleaning of facilities; including trash, dust, mop, vacuum.
  • Assist all journey trades, i.e.: painting, electricians and HVAC.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Two (2) years of general work experience in: building and equipment maintenance OR construction or repair work OR completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.
  • Experience operating hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of trade specifics including but not limited to: ability to read and understand blueprints, P&ID’s, cut sheets and or vendor information/directions, door hardware, and roofing materials.
  • Possession of valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proper use of chemicals and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • Exhibits good customer service and communication skills in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work weekends if needed.
  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 22-13.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. Your COVID-19 vaccine attestation status must be received by the Human Resources office prior to the commencement of work.   • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to properly use and operate power equipment after obtaining a certification card for each piece.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy tasks and physical work requiring reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing 12-foot ladders, and lifting 50 pounds from floor to 36 inches.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and diagrams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.

Starting Salary: $2,827/month                     Range:  34                           Code:  678H
