Full-Time Litigation Practice Analyst

Job Description

Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in seven (7) cities across the U.S., is looking for a Litigation Practice Analyst to fill a full-time exempt position in its St. Louis, Chicago, or Dallas office. With over 400 attorneys and experience in 50 areas of law, Thompson Coburn is regularly recognized for its commitment to diversity and for providing clients with outstanding value and service. The person selected for this position will work with litigation practice areas to identify new technologies and improve processes, make recommendations to Partners and Executive Management, and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have an MBA, J.D. or Paralegal Certification. A thorough knowledge of litigation practice and legal-specific technologies and workflows is required. Qualified applicants will have two or more years’ experience working in a litigation practice group at a law firm or corporate legal department and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. This is an exempt position that can be filled in our St. Louis, Chicago or Dallas office and is eligible for a flexible hybrid-remote work schedule.

Job Responsibilities

  • Consults with IS technical staff, litigation practice areas, vendors, and external consultants to advocate for technology capabilities and make them aware of the limitations of existing technology.
  • Leverages existing technology portfolio to meet practice/client needs and where required provides input to gaps and recommendations for the future.
  • Applies measurable analysis and data-mining skills to develop analytical insights around product usability and opportunities for technology and process improvement which lead to increased efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Stays abreast of current trends in the legal industry to implement tools, automation, and data flow processes that allow legal teams to achieve their goals. Communicates with vendors, trade groups, and professional organizations to stay abreast of business trends and best practices.
  • Finds opportunities to improve litigation practice area-specific software through research and knowledge of emerging technologies.  Proactively presents findings to key practice area leaders.
  • Matures user relationships between IS and legal teams and administrative departments by advocating users’ needs and ensuring that those needs are appropriately prioritized in design and workflow.
  • Guides IS alignment with upcoming business workload changes or possible business transformation opportunities through regular attendance in practice area meetings and established relationships with key attorneys.
  • Leads practice areas to utilize IS best practices for organization and location of data.
  • Turns data into convincing stories that influence litigation practice areas to prioritize process improvement and technology.
  • Utilizes user-centered methodologies to understand and analyze user experience, expectations, and requirements.
  • Determines the requirements necessary for the development of customized/targeted training materials to support the software and specialized workflows.  Collaborates with Training on the development of training materials.
  • Provides work status briefings to management as required and tracks daily work activities.
  • Collaborates with team members on solution design around the user experience.
  •  Works to attain strategic and operational goals.
Job Requirements
  • Must have a working knowledge of litigation legal practices and their clients to have credibility and serve as a technical authority to legal teams.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of complex information easily, communicate clearly, and draw sound conclusions required.
  • Must possess the ability to think strategically, understand the business requirements and problems presented, and to translate into new or improved workflow solutions.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as all vendors and consultants.
  • Must be able to maintain all information in the strictest of confidence and is required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must present alternative and innovative solutions, both functionally and technically, to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments by using critical, creative, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Must possess the aptitude to work and think independently, especially for research and comprehension of vendor and related resource materials.
  • Must exhibit negotiating and persuasive interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate well with others.
  • Thorough knowledge of litigation practice and legal specific technologies and workflows.
  • Must have a security first approach to analysis, design, and implementation  and ability to follow security protocols when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Ability to learn and utilize ITIL and ITSM frameworks is required.
  • Must possess self-motivation, attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects, strong time management and organizational skills, and effective follow-up and follow-through skills. The ability to meet deadlines is required.
  • Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • This is a full-time position that requires working a minimum of forty (40) hours on a regular basis.  Oftentimes, it may also require working outside of normal business hours to ensure the completion of position requirements.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport twenty (20) pounds, use of a computer and associated peripherals, and ability to use other business equipment found in the office.
