Full-Time Lead Child Care Teacher

As the Lead Child Care Teacher, you will support the YMCA Child Care Program year-round to serve our community with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop interests and talents with a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement so that children have fun, grow and thrive in our care. You will help in providing balanced recreation, education, and character development through enriched activities full of fun and friendship. In this position you will be able to use your skills for:

Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which include the implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, and our 8 Points of Leadership.

  • Plan and develop a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities. Prepare and implement the curriculum. Provide an integrated, child-centered, comprehensive curriculum and multicultural environment, which meets the needs of every child, including those with disabilities.
  • Come alongside school personnel to support academic goals and plans for children and the school.
  • Directly supervise children at all times and maintain program/site in compliance with state licensing standards.
  • Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with students, parents, and peers.
  • Maintain accurate records of the children including their development, attendance, immunization, and general health
  • Train, encourage, and lead all staff members utilizing the Leadership Competency Development Guide.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership to new site staff following training guidelines and create follow-up plans throughout the school year.
  • Dispense medication according to the Medication Authorization Form and maintain accurate records of such.

Are you a good fit?

  • I am at least 21 years old.
  • I want to have fun at work!
  • I have two years of full-time experience leading others.
  • I have 30 or more college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Elementary Education OR the equivalent educational background in courses relating to early learning or child development.
  • I have completed STARS training (i.e. Ongoing 10 hours, 20/30 Hour Basic) or commit to completing after hire.
  • I have previous experience working with children in a childcare setting and knowledge of school-aged child development.
  •  I enjoy working with school-aged children and diverse populations.
  •  I currently have (or commit to obtaining after hire) CPR, Basic First Aid, Food Handlers Card, and TB immunization card.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Starting Wage: $18.50 per hour + per hour, depending on qualifications/experience

Hours:  Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Location:  Elementary school located within Peninsula School District
