Job Description:

Laboratory Firewall Engineer – This role will provide LSN firewall (Lab Systems Network) expertise for laboratory computing (benchtop) environment. Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, timely execution of work, and collaboration with scientists, IT colleagues, and vendors are essential to ensure maximum productivity for the bench scientist as well as to ensure the integrity of both the laboratory data collected and the systems used to collect the data.

Responsibilities include:
1) Coordinate the creation of firewall rules required to enable scientists and lab instruments network connectivity.
a. Review and evaluate existing network traffic across multiple firewalls and when warranted submit requests to create appropriate restrictive firewall rules to allow/deny traffic.
b. Assist laboratory operations staff with migration of benchtop endpoints behind LSN firewall.
c. Interface with External Service Providers, benchtop support team and Cybersecurity and ensure escalations are analyzed, identifying the root cause and resolution of issues promptly while updating clients throughout.
d. Review existing firewall rules in effort to close LSN from any non-required traffic.

2) Write documentation on procedures, device statuses, firewall block lists and create diagrams of network topologies and record details of troubleshooting processes/events.

3) Work closely with Client Laboratory Computing Services systems management team to understand the benchtop environment, core benchtop suite of applications and systems management tools to be utilized on all systems. (Altiris Client Management Suite, Active Directory, etc). Verify all standard tools are enabled for security on the Client network (Virusscan, Patching, etc).

4) Participate in and may serve as technical lead for projects in support of laboratory computing at the local site collaborating with IT Staff and clients at other sites.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have significant expertise and advanced knowledge of computer security and networking. Must be able to diagnose issues, build infrastructure, and work with related software. Candidate would benefit from experience with the administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of PC hardware and software in a Microsoft Windows /Active Directory environment in a laboratory setting. Knowledge of ServiceNow request, incident and change management would be helpful to candidate.
Knowledge of computer system validation and Good Laboratory Practices. An understanding of laboratory science in the pharmaceutical industry and demonstrated project management skills are to the candidate’s advantage.
Relationship management skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team are essential to success.
