Kitchen Leader

NOC 6311 – Food service supervisors

Wage: $17.00/h

  1. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of up to six staff who prepare and portion food, including food service counter attendants and food preparers
  2. Maintain records of stock and wastage
  3. Establish work schedules with back-up staffing plans for unexpected shift staffing needs
  4. Estimate and order ingredients and supplies
  5. Ensure quality food and food presentation
  6. Ensure quality customer service, including addressing customers concerns and requests
  7. Train and provider ongoing support to staff in job duties, health, safety, and cleaning procedures and requirements
  8. Advise owner-managers of unresolved restaurant supply and repair issues and staff and customer issues.
  9. Assist owner-managers in creating staff and operational policies, processes, menu, and budget compliance.
  10. Minor roles (10-40%): if required for quality customer service, assist other staff in their roles:
    1. serving, which includes: take orders, serve food, take payment, cleaning; and,
    2. cooking: prep, cook, plate, and clean.


Education:  Secondary school graduation


Experience: 24 months or more in food service industry


Certificates:  Serving It Right


Skills and abilities:

  1. Able to carry out above listed duties and tolerate working conditions

  5. Basic English required to talk to customers
  6. Japanese is not required but is an asset to read Japanese product instructions, order from Japanese businesses, and communicate with Japanese-speaking staff.
