Full-Time Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Training Specialist

Job Description

Summary: The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Training Specialist supports the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of SPLC’s strategic plans to deliver on-going staff development and build cultural competency and capacity. The incumbent serves as the JEDI Team’s LGBTQ subject matter expert and is adept in navigating gender dynamics through an anti-racist lens. The JEDI Training Specialist initiates trainings for staff in areas of diversity, equity and inclusion and helps managers support their teams in creating and sustaining an open and inclusive culture at SPLC. The JEDI Training Specialist develops, coaches, and mentors’ staff at every level on issues and topics developed by the JEDI team.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Prepares training curricula for diverse audiences on relevant topics in alignment with best practices and needs of the organization;
  • Delivers and coordinates skilled training within the field of diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, multiculturalism, and related themes;
  • Coach and mentor staff to become JEDI champions;
  • Develop, facilitate, and manage educational programs for staff in alignment with organizational goals and the SPLC JEDI Transformation plan;
  • Works with the JEDI Team to conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation of educational initiatives to determine impact, achievement of outcomes, and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Diversity and Inclusion training and education initiatives that contribute to the achievement of SPLC goals and objectives;
  • Assist in coordinating large scale capacity building efforts;
  • Ensures effective documentation, tracking, and reporting of educational efforts;
  • Assist in the oversight and execution of the SPLC Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategy;
  • Advocates for both staff and consults with leadership;
  • Frequent travel to SPLC offices across the Southeast;

Transporting of moderately heavy objects up to 25 pounds.

Interacts with:  All SPLC staff and JEDI Workgroup.


Education and Related Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in DEI work;
  • Solid knowledge of current practices and trends regarding DEI in the workplace and awareness of demographic trends on a national and regional level; and
  • Demonstrated effective presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to achieve results by assuming a pro-active approach to business goals and objectives;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to motivate, influence and optimize senior leadership and peer groups;
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills characterized by active listening, respectful communication, and results-oriented communication;
  • Proven success navigating situations that require a high level of self-awareness;
  • Ability to work independently and interactively at all levels of the organization; and
  • Ability to travel.

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
