SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for supporting Computer Security & Network Technology program students and

faculty. Serve as system sub-administrator for CSNT program IT infrastructure. Provide

hands on student experiences, with specific technologies, equipment in a class/laboratory setting under the guidance of an instructor. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of computer security and network technology through professional development activities. Assist faculty and students with department events and meetings, including trade show demonstrations of student work. This position is dependent upon enrollment, typically works only on the days class is in session and reports directly to a Dean of Instruction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Interpret, clarify and/or re-teach technical information and program materials

• Follow and interpret policies, procedures, standard practices as they pertain to instruction and the college as a whole

• Provide support necessary to maintain technical supplies, tools, computers and software related to instruction, including purchasing, inventory, and/or abatement

• Prepare, organize, set-up, clean up and order catering for industry trade shows, student demonstrations and meetings

• Provide leadership in repair, maintenance, security and cleaning of classroom equipment; monitor equipment, material storage, and handling

• Attend advisory committee meetings and take minutes

• Assist with planning, staffing, security and supervising of computer labs

• Monitor classrooms in instructor’s absence

• Coordinate instructional remediation for individual students, administer hands-on skill tests; monitor student projects or job workmanship; assist students with classroom equipment and supplies. Monitor for correct safety, sanitation and/or hazardous waste practices as appropriate to the occupation

• Assist in procuring donated training aids and materials

• Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality; other related duties as assigned

• May supervise work study students and temporary help

QUALIFICATIONS

• Combination of 3 years’ education and experience that demonstrates ability to perform the essential functions of the position

• Solid knowledge of CompTIA Network+, TCP/IP protocol suite and subnetting

• Ability to work independently and communicate well with employees, students and vendors

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages, and ability levels

• Possess a current First Aid/CPR card or be willing to obtain same within 30 days of employment

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to lift weight relative to the occupation. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb ladders, push or pull loaded carts, lift and carry up to 40 lbs. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Compensation & Work Schedule

This is a union covered position. As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step C $3,956 and Step F $4,445 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. Employees hired with an associate degree will be placed at minimum of step D. Employees hired with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be placed at minimum of step E. Ongoing (Step G- Step M) step advancement is defined by the classified bargained agreement. (Per current bargained agreement, Instructional Support Technicians are scheduled to work when classes are in session. As a result, actual salary may fluctuate depending on number of days worked). Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement.

This position works 40 hours per week. Working hours may vary but are typically between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday; schedule to be determined by the supervisor. This is a union-covered position, which requires the payment of membership dues/representation fees.
