Primary Purpose
The Athletic Trainer is a part of the Target Zero initiative to reduce strains and sprains at Skills Training Center in employees who are new to the company or new to a classification. Leads and manages the Industrial Athletic Strength and Conditioning program for Skills Training Center to ensure Line Assistants and Apprentices are physically prepared to endure the rigors of climbing and conducting line work. Ensures employees are provided guidance on proper nutrition, hydration and recovery to be used at Skills Training Center and when they return to the districts. Ensures the Flex Center is properly maintained and equipment is in good working order and appropriate for the strength and condition program. Collaborates with Skills Training Instructors to identify areas of need and development to strengthen and condition employees attending Skills Training Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains the Strength and Conditioning program for Skills Training Center to include Functional Mobility Screens, documentation and administration of the correctives and movement patterns for each employee.
  • Conducts Functional Mobility Screens for all employees participating in the Strength an Conditioning Program at STC.
  • Participate in the development and implement strategic vision for contractor oversight including program development, program enhancements, initiatives, best practices, incident trending, and improving safety culture.
  • Serve as an advisor on Sprains and Strains Committee, SIF Team and Safety Committees to assess ways in which SDG&E can reduce injuries through strength and conditioning.
  • Ensures safety programs are conducted in accordance with CAL-OSHA codes and regulations, company policy and union provisions. Ensure effective execution of all government mandated training /programs (CDL, DMV Pull, etc.) and SDG&E required training per LOU.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree Kinesiology Required
  • Master’s Degree Kinesiology Preferred

Experience

  • 7 Years related experience as a coach or trainer of professional athletes, or athletes training to move into professional status. Required
  • 3 Years experience providing classroom education in the area of sports medicine, exercise physiology, kinesiology or similar subject area; and demonstrated experience building an athletic program for top performing athletes. Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills for interfacing professionally with internal and external contacts. Advanced
  • Ability to build relationships and credibility with a diverse population within the scope of their responsibilities. Advanced
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from the envisioning state through to implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors. Advanced
  • Effectively work with team members of varied backgrounds and skill levels. Intermediate
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint. Intermediate

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) – National Strength and Conditioning Association Required
  • Certified Functional Movement Screen (FMS – Level 1) Required
  • Certified Speed and Agility Coach (CSAC) – National Sports Performance Association Preferred

Other Qualifications

  • 24 hour response availability for PSPS or emergency response.
