Job Description

Organization Overview

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children.

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The past two decades have seen important progress on child rights, yet while much has been achieved, sharp disparities remain. In most countries, inequality is higher today than a generation ago, including in middle income countries where most of the world’s poor children now live. The rapid pace of urbanization and the growing youth bulge in Africa and parts of Asia will require significant expansion of the provision of essential services for children. These challenges are compounded by the scale and complexity of crises triggered by conflict, natural disasters or epidemics. The global community faces these challenges when the political and economic environments pose challenges of their own, testing the world’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable. In this environment, strong and consistent leadership of UNICEF is critical to enable the achievement of results for children.

UNICEF USA (UUSA)  is a private, independent, U.S. nonprofit that rallies the American public to support the world’s most vulnerable children through the unmatched reach of UNICEF. Headq uartered in New Yo rk City, UUSA has some 300 emp l o yees distributed ac r o ss nine regio nal o ffices in the U.S. To fuel UNICEF’s life-saving work across the globe,  UUSA rais es nearly $600 million d ollars fr om p rivate s o u r ces every year every year, and advocates for U.S. Government policies and funding to help children around the world. For more information, visit  www.unicefusa.org.

Position Description

The Impact Fund for Children is an impact investing affiliate of UNICEF USA that uses innovative finance tools to enhance UNICEF’s ability to achieve its mission worldwide for every child. We established our first financial tool, the Bridge Fund, in 2011, which remains our core business today, and launched a new guaranty fund named the Fast Fund to help UNICEF during COVID. The Bridge Fund accelerates funding to UNICEF to bridge the timing gaps that arise between when financial commitments are made and cash is secured to ensure its life-saving work continues seamlessly around the world when speed or continuity is essential.

It is an exciting and dynamic time to join the Impact Fund for Children as we develop and execute our strategy for growth and build out our team. We seek to substantially expand the Bridge Fund’s activity, as well as pilot new impact investing products in partnership with UNICEF, including SME lending and development impact bonds, among others.

With large, unmet global financing needs for children and inadequate progress on child-related indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (the “SDGs”), we seek to maximize the potential of impact investing to enable UNICEF and UNICEF USA to foster systemic, sustainable improvements in child survival and socio-economic opportunity. Our vision is to position UNICEF, UNICEF USA, and the Impact Fund as the brands offering some of the most attractive funding opportunities for impact investors and catalytic donors seeking to help solve the biggest challenges confronting children worldwide.
