Full-Time Home Grocery Delivery Associate VISTA

United Way of King County – Posted by BrandonMontiel Seattle, Washington, United States

Job Description

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

**UWKC AmeriCorps members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the first day of service.**United Way of King County is committed to building a racially just community where people have homes, students graduate, and families are financially stable. Since 2010, United Way has had a pivotal and strategic role in alleviating food insecurity in Washington State. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for home delivery of food increased significantly across Washington State, particularly among households with young children or seniors. While our community was fortunate to have a strong network of food banks and other partners who stepped up to provide emergency food, there was not enough capacity within our local emergency food system to meet the full needs of clients. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted deeper systems gaps with the emergency food system, including communities that have been historically and continuously underserved by mainstream food providers. In Spring 2020, in response to the transportation and health safety challenges faced by many households in connecting with existing food resources, United Way partnered with the community to develop strategies to bring food to the doorsteps of people who need it. Home delivery models have become and will continue to be a critical function of our hunger response ecosystem. Our efforts have included delivering pre-boxed groceries to families and seniors across King County, hot meals to the homes of community college students, and bringing federally reimbursed meals for youth to housing authorities. In July 2020, we began partnering with DoorDash, United Way Worldwide, and local food providers to provide weekly home delivery of groceries to clients across King County. To date, we have completed over 400,000 deliveries of food and serve over 3,500 households per week.
