We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Healthcare Coding Analyst on our Health Solutions team. As a Healthcare Coding Analyst you will be responsible for supporting the activities of the CPT Editorial Panel and/or the CPT Editorial Assistant Board  in maintaining the CPT code set by working with national medical specialty societies, non-physician professional organizations, public and private payers, pharmaceutical and device manufactures, along with other high profile stakeholders. You will also utilize “Core” database efficiencies, accountable for coding analysis and research, for the use and application of CPT codes, and develop CPT educational content through books, electronic products, newsletters, and symposiums.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as staff support to the CPT Editorial Panel/CPT Assistant Editorial Board and other stakeholders to develop and maintain the CPT code set. Responsible for preparation of multiple code change proposals, assisting with facilitation of Panel Workgroups, building presentations and the development of minutes that forms the basis for all CPT products.  Liaise with stakeholders including CPT Editorial Panel, CPT Assistant Editorial Board, national medical specialty societies, national public and private payers, AMA members and AMA employees, along with other high profile health policy organizations, on issues related to the CPT code set.
  • Author and develop educational content to support the policy of the CPT Editorial Panel and/or the CPT Editorial Assistant Board, in a multitude of forms to advise and assist AMA members, physicians, non-physician health care professionals and other CPT stakeholders in appropriately applying the CPT code set.  Actively respond to questions and support requests related to CPT.  Responsible for the maintenance of the CPT code set.
  • Analyze and communicate health care policies associated with the delivery and reporting of health care services and procedures that impact the use of the CPT code set by physicians and non-physician health care professionals.  Assist in the development of recommendations on Medicare physician payment policy by providing CPT coding advice on services and procedures.  Contribute to preparation of AMA policy reports and briefs for stakeholders.

May include other responsibilities as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum 5 years in health care or coding fields.
  3. RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P or CPC certification a plus.
  4. Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to independently and efficiently locate information, evaluate source quality and research methodologies, and present findings in a concise, logical manner.
  5. Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create a variety of document types (e.g., reports, correspondence, summaries, slide presentations, educational pieces) for different audiences that require minimal revision.
  6. Exceptional oral communication skills, with the ability to present clear and cogent arguments.
  7. Proactively initiates, develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external team members to achieve results. Must be able to quickly secure the trust of physicians, payers and other stakeholders, in relation to an understanding of their business.
  8. Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and schedule activities to meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of knowledge.
  10. Demonstrated ability to work independently or part of a team on shared projects
  11. Some travel required.
