Job Description

PPSLRSWMO currently has an opening for a Health Center Assistant.  This is a full-time, benefited position at the Central West End Health Center. The hourly rate is $15.00 an hour. PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF THE ST. LOUIS REGION AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI
POSITION TITLE:    Health Center Assistant
STATUS:                    Full Time, Non-exempt
REPORTS TO:          Heath Center Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The health center assistant provides quality reproductive and family planning services to patients through clerical, educational, and laboratory duties.  As a part of the health center team, the HCAs work closely with each other and all health center staff, including nurses, clinicians and physicians to achieve patient satisfaction and meet health center efficiency goals.
May require day, evening, weekend hours.  May requires travel to other PPSLRSWMO sites.  This position also requires computer and writing work that will require sitting at a desk for extended periods and requires standing for periods of time in excess of one hour and moving throughout health center.
Core responsibilities for abortion facilities are different than core responsibilities for family planning only sites. In order to earn the same level status, the HCA may be required to learn the core responsibilities of abortion facility care, prior to being eligible to move up a level, or transition to a health center that provides abortion care.
LEVEL I RESPONSIBILITES
·         FRONT DESK SKILLS
Schedules all appointment types
Registration procedures & appropriate financial/insurance screening – capable of communicating with insurance verification (RevTELL)
Provides correct forms to patient & ensures appropriate consents are signed
Prepares medical chart for the day
Fiscal accountability & performs appropriate procedures: collects payment; correctly uses check and charge verification systems, follows open/close procedures
PAT patient tracking & EHR documentation proficiency
·         BACK OFFICE SKILLS
 Accurately collects BP/weight
 Verbalizes Family Planning & AB education
 Contraception, cancer screening, STI/HIV testing/education, AB/pregnancy options counseling
 Basic Sterilization education
 Procedural room set-up (LARC, Colpo)
 Basic Lab Proficiency: Run basic labs & controls & follow documentation procedures; appropriate specimen labeling
Point-of-care in-house labs (HIV, Preg test, UA, Hgb, glucometer)
 Competent in room set-up & turn-over procedures
Basic sterilizing procedures
Transition to Level II Requirement: All Level I core skills met & demonstrates exemplar work ethic & team-building ability
LEVEL II RESPONSIBILITIES 
Competently performs all LEVEL I responsibilities as outlined above
Perform venipuncture
Prepares & administers injections (SQ & IM) & able to verbalize teach-back for self-injections
Deliver preliminary + HIV results
Flow facilitates throughout the day to support team & operational flow
Telehealth proficiency
Assists in onboarding & training of new staff members
Assists with health center stock/supplies management & ordering
Assist for advanced procedures (LEEP/vasectomy/hysteroscopy)
Abortion procedure education (MAB & SAB)
Performs RH testing
Abortion facility specifics (not core skills for family planning staff to move to Level III)
 Advanced sterilization room procedures
Abortion procedure room assist
Recovery room assist
Packaging POC & prepares specimen for transport or disposal
Optional Level II Responsibility: Ultrasound
 Perform ultrasound for gestational age dating, during procedures, and post-procedures.
 Interpret ultrasound findings and brief providers and clinicians on preliminary findings.
Adhere initial privileging and ongoing proctoring procedures required to perform ultrasound and meet regulatory requirements.
 Transition to Level III Requirement: Proficient in all site specific skills & learned AB procedure education
LEVEL III RESPONSIBILITIES
 Demonstrates mastery of Level 1 & Level 2 responsibilities
 Demonstrates strong leadership ability, team-work, & work ethic
 Assist in data collection (i.e. Tableau) to drive improvement of team performance
Assists with health center operational audits (Clinical & Fiscal Audits)
CLIA Lab proficiency/Eldon card management
Ultrasound proficiency (performance, preliminary interpretation, documentation)
Mastery of laboratory duties, function, & documentation; proficient with lab ordering & specimen investigation; trains  staff on laboratory procedures
Oversight of new staff training as delegated by health center manager
Assist in the preparation for health center audits including QA, Medicaid and Title X
Lead daily briefs, debriefs, and huddles as needed
  
QUALIFICATIONS
 Experience in a health center and/or surgical setting desired
Flexible non-judgmental approach to individuals from diverse backgrounds
Strong background in family planning, abortion and human sexuality a plus
Experience in counseling/social work/crisis intervention a plus
Commitment to excellent patient care
 High school diploma or GED certificate required
CNA, MA certified desired
Effective verbal and written English communication skills
CPR certification desired
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers
Detail-orientated
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; able to juggle multiple priorities
 Bilingual skills a plus, particularly Spanish, Serbo-Croatian, or Vietnamese
Experience in customer service a plus
QUALITY ASSURANCE/RISK MANAGEMENT
Documents in legible, accurate English all interactions with clients in corresponding medical records.
Follows current PPFA/PPSLRSWMO medical standards and guidelines, and policies & procedures and ensures client is aware of individual follow up plan for medical service.
Protects PPSLRSWMO and its assets from liability.
Protects confidentiality of PPSLRSWMO clients, staff, volunteers, donors, Board, and all other areas of operation.
Follows HIPAA privacy and security guidelines.
