Job Description & Duties

Under the direction of the Chief of Product, the Head of Product Development (Staff Services Manager II) balances strategy and execution, serving as a thought leader for the evolving Lottery game space, while providing supervision and managerial direction to a team of Product marketers. Within the Lottery portfolio, multi-state games, California draw games and instant Scratchers games combine for a diverse assortment, with Scratchers representing the largest portion of the Lottery’s portfolio, launching over 50 new games each year. This position plays an integral role in driving the Lottery’s products to reach more Californians, helping the organization fulfill its mission to provide supplemental dollars for California schools.

The ideal candidate can pivot from long-term strategic planning to tactical execution in a fluid, fast-moving environment, demonstrating superior project management skills, strong leadership and attention to detail.

Key duties include:

  • Develop, manage and provide direction to the team responsible for the development of the Scratchers product portfolio, including leading the game development process, defining research objectives and presenting strategic recommendations.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to staff, including job activities, team initiatives, business planning and project assignments.
  • Provide strategic leadership for new instant games to boost the Lottery’s product portfolio.
  • Monitor and optimize fiscal performance towards sales goals.

Qualifications

  • Broad understanding and proven experience in product development and marketing, product lifecycles, consumer research and testing and trends in graphic design.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, launch and optimize new products to reach organizational goals around sales, brand awareness and perception.
  • Passionate about discovery and innovation to continue the evolution of the Lottery’s product mix.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple overlapping deadlines.
  • A strong background working with data, analytics and optimization.
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team of product developers and marketers, building a supportive and respectful team culture.
  • A desire to bring your talent and experience to our purpose-driven culture, an interest in public service, and a passion for the Lottery’s mission to generate supplemental funding for public education in California.
