Full-Time Grant Writer

This role will ideally be located in Denver, CO (other locations will be considered depending on the candidate). This position will focus on writing, editing, and submitting grant proposals; researching, identifying, and vetting prospects; collaborating with the program and finance teams to develop strong proposals; assisting with grant reports; and maintaining Salesforce records. The ideal candidate will have the ability to research opportunities, determine whether they align with The Phoenix’s mission and vision, and communicate that information clearly and concisely to others.   • Write and submit proposals to help fund our programs
  • Edit the work of others by tidying up grammar and phrasing while also considering framing and strategy
  • Conduct prospect research for specific locations, states, and regions to both sustain and expand Phoenix programs
  • Lead meetings and gather information to inform grant proposals
  • Develop a priority matrix based on the foundation criteria, mission alignment, grant size, and other relevant information to help prioritize grant opportunities
  • Develop a calendared timeline of vetted prospects
  • Update and maintain records in Salesforce database
  • Coordinate grant reporting requirements
  • Complete other duties as assigned



  • Ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively
  • A keen eye for editing
  • Interest in development and grant writing
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Bachelor’s degree



  • Experience prospecting, writing, and reporting on grants
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with nonprofits
  • Degree in journalism, communications, creative writing, or English
  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery or close personal connection to our mission
