Disaster Response Fellow

GlobalGiving’s crisis/disaster response work is one of our organization’s most visible and impact areas of focus. It involves virtually all GlobalGiving teams. When crises happen—from a hurricane in Texas to an earthquake in Nepal, to ongoing refugee crises around the world—the entire GlobalGiving community is activated to provide support. GlobalGiving responds to major disasters by posting general relief and recovery Funds, from which the Disaster Response Team then makes grants to our nonprofit partners working to serve impacted communities. We also provide support to the Business Partnership and other teams at GlobalGiving on corporate disaster response programs and other crisis-related activities.

In 2020, the Disaster Response Team provided critical support to hundreds of nonprofits helping communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, while also responding to hurricanes and storms across the globe, the explosion in Beirut as well as to the Australia and California wildfires. As an integral member of the team, the Disaster Response Fellow will:

  • Monitor crises as they unfold and develop; conduct outreach to existing and new prospective nonprofit partners responding to disasters and crises globally to assist in both assessing needs and nonprofit partner capacity to inform GlobalGiving’s level of response.
  • Review partner disaster-related projects and grant reports.
  • Assist in the grantmaking process for GlobalGiving-managed “Funds”; support with setting Fund strategy, research potential grantees, review grant materials, and manage communication with GlobalGiving partners and selected grantee partners.
  • Develop and collaborate on human-centered stories and data-driven content; assist in creating externally-facing reports, impact stories and presentations.
  • Assist in cross-team initiatives to improve disaster grantees’ experience and engagement with GlobalGiving products and services.
  • Stay on the pulse of the crisis/disaster response sector, recommend virtual and physical conferences, participate in external calls/webinars and summarize learnings.
  • Manage customer service requests and inquiries sent to “di*******@gl**********.org” by external stakeholders and GlobalGiving nonprofit partners.
  • Assist with research related to disaster Fund and donor data.
  • Other cool stuff that emerges throughout the year!
