The Global Controls Robust Design Leader (RDL) reports directly to engineering design leadership and is responsible for ensuring best practices are implemented in New Product Development (NPD) across the global controls teams and maintaining alignment with Carrier engineering standards. This responsibility includes all product safety aspects throughout the product lifecycle. The Global Controls RDL must be an influential technical resource capable of leading across technical disciplines with the ability to effectively communicate plans and status to executive management!

Strong working relationships with employees at all levels and functions across the business including quality, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, customer service and product management.
Key Responsibilities
Leader / change agent supporting product teams:

Chair or participate as necessary on QRBs (product development project reviews) to help drive QRB success. Drive improvement and standardization of processes that help product development teams deliver robust products.
Ensure that product development teams are meeting quality and safety standards of product design.
Expert, coach, teacher:
Participate in the development, maintenance, and interpretation of policies and standard work for engineering and coordinate their implementation:
Provide guidance related to product development deliverables as well as materials supporting design reviews and project reviews.
Be proficient in key areas of Robust Design including:
Critical Parameter Management
FMEA
Requirements Management
Risk Management
Marciano Analysis
Test & Reliability
Modelling & Design of Experiments
Provide training and support development teams in applying Design Quality management using SPC standards, methods, tools and concepts
Member of the Global Carrier Robust Design Leadership Team:
Provide feedback to propagate best practices and lessons learned from local projects including:
COPQ improvements and cost reductions
Develop, implement, and improve both Operations and Engineering metrics related to process certification and design robustness (including Engineering Effectiveness metrics and standard work)
Ensure that project teams incorporate Design for Manufacturability and Modularity for new programs.
Other Key Activities / General Responsibilities
Coordinate and represent the Global Controls team in activities related to Product and Services Safety (PASS) matters
Assist in and facilitate process improvement workshops such as Kaizen events and Value Stream Mapping events
Contribute to Carrier Quality and EH&S goals
Proactively promote continuous improvement to improve product quality.
Experience & Qualifications / Knowledge requirements
BA/BS degree with 6-10+ years’ relevant experience
Thorough knowledge of and practical experience with good engineering practices such as Design and Process FMEA.
Experience with quality tools and methods such as Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen or other.
Competency with MS Office software and statistical software such as Minitab.
Product development or manufacturing experience preferably in industrial, automotive or fire equipment industries.
Ability to collect, review and synthesize data and report results to stakeholders effectively verbally and in written form. Ability to identify needs of the organization and/or customer, articulate necessary proposals and see projects through to completion
Presentation and training experience, preferably with audiences of varying group sizes, technical skill levels and levels of business responsibilities.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to manage multiple priorities.
Familiar with ISO9001, engineering standards, automotive quality standards and similar quality systems and processes.

A self-motivated individual focused on delivering within defined deadlines.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Good risk management skills, good judgement in identifying which issues to escalate to leadership.
Good time management, planning and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Hands on approach, quick learner, problem solving, team member, and coordinator.
Quickly absorbs product knowledge / proactive self-learner of fire safety and security standards
Additional Comments
Position will involve working directly with WHQ engineering functional leadership and Global Carrier Robust Design Leadership. Position involves coordination and communication with design centers, program managers, and other interdisciplinary functions.
